The Lucky Strike Tower Lighting
December 4, 2009 7:00 PM
The Lucky Strike Tower Lighting will start it’s magical evening of brilliant lights, holiday music and snowflake chasing on the lawn at American Tobacco. While it snows in Durham, this holiday event will feature an eleven person Handbell Choir, The Welkin Ringers. Also performing for this Christmas event will be the Durham School of Arts Concert Chorale, the Advanced Middle School Chorus, the Morehead Montessori Magnet Elementary Chorus, and the Jammin Manatees from the Club Boulevard Arts and Humanities Magnet School.
The Welkin Ringers will begin playing at 6:35 PM amidst the beautiful luminaries courtesy of the Girl Scout Troop 514 of Cadette Girl Scouts.
Join Ken Smith of WRAL TV on the lawn AND be one of the first 500 people and receive a souvenir light wand.
Light up the Food Drive for the Holidays and make someone’s Christmas special by bringing a “kid-friendly”, non-perishable food or two. These foods will benefit the Faith Food Shuttle’s BackPack Buddies program.

Christmas By Candlelight at Duke Homestead
December 4 and December 11, 2009 7-9 PM
This free holiday event celebrates a Christmas in 1870 during evening tours of the Homestead. This excellent event for the history, agriculture and industry lover showcases decorations, caroling, hot apple cider and other goodies.

The City of Durham Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting
December 5, 2009 4:00 PM
Everyone looks forward to the Durham Parade and Tree Lighting. This year’s theme is “Musical Notes and Holiday Floats”. Santa will be sure to pay this parade a visit! Durham’s Parks and Recreation Department will officially start the parade at 4:00 PM on the corner of Blackwell and Jackie Robinson streets at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and American Tobacco Historic District. Trail along through downtown Durham, NC and join the Tree Lighting ceremony at the end of the parade. The Tree Lighting will be held at the CCB Plaza, 201 N. Corcoran Street.
The 2009 Durham Parade Grand Marshals will be Cool John Ferguson and John Dee Holeman. These two Blues legends are sure to add cadence to the Tree Lighting ceremony with their outstanding music!
A Trailer Park Christmas by Jeffrey Moore and Rachel Klem
December 3-5, 10-12, and the 16-19 at 7:30 PM or December 13 at 2:00 PM
This wonderful, funny, interactive holiday entertainment is set in West Durham and tracks the Dodson/Hussy family as they deal with crazy neighbors, ghosts, fruitcakes and a holiday tornado.
This personable comedy will show at the Durham-Common Ground Theatre, 4815B Hillsborough Rd in Durham, NC. This theatre is a black box-style theatre. The Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC will present Tchaikovsky’s classic. This site is also an official drop off site for Toys for Tots.
