It’s already time for the week 5 predictions and picks for the 2009 NFL season. Who would have thought Denver and New England would be the premiere matchup in week 5 of the 2009 NFL season?
My predictions and picks aren’t probably going to make Denver fans happy even though the Broncos are 4-0.
I am not buying into the Broncos offense just yet. The defense looks good enough to slow down the Patriots a bit. But not enough. Tom Brady and New England are beginning to roll and I look for the Patriots to escape Invesco Field with a big victory. My prediction and pick for the big game of the 2009 Week 5 Schedule? Patriots win 24-13. Kyle Orton throws 3 interceptions and Tom Brady tosses 2 touchdown passes. The Broncos could prove me wrong again if the defense continues to dominate like it has. But even the best defenses are vulnerable to a red hot Tom Brady. Just ask Baltimore.
Other picks and predictions for week 5 of the 2009 NFL season? Cincy will struggle at Baltimore and the Ravens rebound with a huge win at home. Ravens roll 33-16. Buffalo downs Cleveland in an ugly ugly game to watch 20-3. Pittsburgh wins at Detroit 27-9. Carolina pounds Washington 28-10 thanks to 3 interceptions by Jason Campbell. Dallas rebounds with a blowout at Kansas City 34-14. Tony Romo puts up huge numbers and finds Jason Witten for two touchdown passes. The game gives an ailing Marion Barber a chance to rest for a half.
Brett Favre tosses 3 touchdown passes in a 42-10 win at St. Louis. Adrian Peterson tops 150 yards as the Vikings dominate.
Elsewhere, the Giants blast visiting Oakland 27-3. It won’t matter if Eli Manning or Chuck Lidell starts this one. The New York “D” owns this game. Philadelphia dominates Tampa Bay 33-0. The Bucs are struggling and Mike Vick looks sharp as he continues to get more action. Atlanta nips San Francisco 23-21 in one of the best games of the day in week 5. Matt Ryan helps drive the Falcons for a game winning score in a closely contested matchup that brings back some good NFC West memories.
My predictions and picks for week 5 of the 2009 NFL season continue with Houston visiting Arizona. It’s an interesting game and I think the Texans will play well but struggle late. Receivers should be the story of this one but I’m going out on a limb to say Tim Hightower is the X factor. Cardinals win by a field goal 31-28.
The remaining predictions and picks for week five? Jags win in Seattle 23-14. Maurice Jones Drew pounds out 100 plus years and the Seahawks offense keeps pointing fingers at each other in the midst of adversity.
The Titans play tough but drop to 0-5 with a 28-20 loss to visiting Indianapolis. Peyton looks like a normal guy for about a half before he kindly shows Tennessee fans what they are missing from his Volunteer days.
My final prediction and pick for the Monday Night game? Miami upsets the visiting New York Jets 23-13. The Dolphins are led by 2 touchdowns from Ricky Williams.
That’s it for my 2009 Week 5 NFL predictions and picks. We’ll do it again next week!
