The week 12 BCS rankings for 2009 are about what college football expected. These 2009 week 12 BCS rankings have the same top seven teams as they all won their games, with the only major change being that Florida is falling in BCS points as several teams draw closer in the standings. Florida is still the #1 team in the week 12 BCS rankings, with Alabama and Texas still sitting at #2 and #3. The three other undefeated teams from the mid-level conferences also remained undefeated this past week, and stayed ranked fourth through six. Those teams are TCU at #4, Cincinnati at #5, and Boise State at #6.
Georgia Tech is still riding high in 2009, and holds the strong #7 slot in the ACC Conference. Georgia Tech also sewed up the Coastal division title, and will get the chance to play against Clemson for the ACC Title. The game heavily favors Georgia Tech, which now sits at 7-1 in the conference and has an overall record of 10-1. Right after Georgia Tech in the rankings are the Oregon Ducks, which made the jump up to #8 in the week 12 BCS Poll after another impressive win over the weekend where the beat Arizona in overtime. Now they sit with 9-2 overall record though, so they won’t be playing for the BCS Championship, but should be very pleased with their shot at the 2009 Rose Bowl.
The season is getting closer and closer to having its BCS Bowl projections completed, but some of the toughest decisions are still to come. Florida vs. Alabama for the SEC Championship is going to be quite the game, with one of the top two teams leaving Atlanta with a loss. When that happens, will the loser be punished for having a loss? Or is there a chance that the loser will still be ranked ahead of one or more of the undefeated teams left in the rankings? Don’t forget that Florida went to the National Championship with one loss on their record just a year ago, so anything is possible in the remaining weeks of the 2009 college football season.
It could be easier for the final Coaches Poll and AP Poll as there are more undefeated teams than one loss teams at the top of the rankings right now, and with so many teams having two losses already it means that there could be some great bowl match-ups on the horizon, possibly with two games taking place between undefeated opponents. Ohio State punched their ticket to the Rose Bowl already, so they are just treading water to find out if they will play Oregon or Oregon State, and that could be an extremely interesting Thursday night game this week.
