With the economy being in the crapper, no one really wants to spend a ton of money these days especially on things we don’t need. Yet we all still want to look good, so here’s 3 basic jackets you can buy to help you get more options with your wardrobe.
A blazer worn in a traditional way with a basic pair of trousers is not the coolest or most original ensemble out there. But if it’s worn in an unexpected way instead of looking stuffy and boring it can look really youthful and fun.
A blazer thrown over a graphic tee and a pair of skinny jeans looks effortless and put together. Or a shrunken boy’s blazer that’s worn over a slinky dress can look feminine and sexy but with a masculine edge that makes the look more daring.
Whatever way it’s worn a blazer is great because it’s so versatile. It instantly makes the most casual get-up (e.g. a tank, jeans and flip-flops) look more pulled together, while it can make the most prim and proper outfit look more casual and laid-back.
OK, so the vest made a huge trendy comeback last year, but I think it’s a trend that’s worth keeping because a vest has the potential to make so many basic pieces look cooler.
For instance, there’s your basic black or navy vest that can be thrown over a white tee and jeans to give it some personality. Or it can be paired with a pencil skirt and ruffled blouse to balance out the femininity of the two pieces .
But there’s also tons of lengths and styles of vests that can inject some individuality into a wardrobe. There are beaded silk vests that can add some soft romanticism to masculine work wear. Or sequined vests that can add some sexiness to a tank and trousers, and I think a denim vest over a floral dress gives off a relaxed bohemian vibe.
I also love long vests that reach past the hips. A knit one can be thrown over leggings in the summer, or over a dress during the fall.
To me the vest, is an essential that every woman should have. There’s so many possible ways for it to be worn and it can really give a basic outfit some edginess, sexiness, or even a chill vibe, depending on how it’s worn.
The Denim Jacket
I’ve yet to find the perfect denim jacket, but it’s always in the back of mind when I shop. The denim jacket often gets a bad rap, because some people tend to wear them too large and boxy, or with their blue jeans, creating a fashion disaster.
However, when worn correctly, I think the denim jacket looks oh so fabulous, in an American chic sort of way.
A fitted blue jean jacket goes great with basic summer dresses, and it looks crisp and stylish over a pair of white jeans. And it’s just a great choice for balancing out your top half when wearing revealing mini skirts or short shorts.
A denim jacket is such a good investment because it can tone down the most sophisticated ensembles and make them look more laid-back and unfussy. A jean jacket can even make a dress that’s supposed to be worn at night look breezy enough to be worn during the day-light hours.
It’s an essential piece, just don’t buy it too big and please don’t wear it with your blue jeans.
So buy a version of these three jackets and see how many more options and outfits you can come up with using stuff that’s already in your closet.
