If you’re a woman at the end of your pregnancy and you’re feeling anxious to have the whole thing end, you may find acupressure helpful.
Acupressure is applying pressure to specific points located at different areas throughout the body. It is used for many purposes, labor induction being one. As a mother of eight, I found these points very helpful for 2 or 3 of my pregnancies.
Applying pressure can be done with your fingertips, or whatever you may feel works best. In the past, I’ve used a unused eraser from a pencil. It’s soft and comfortable.
I’ll be outlining 4 different pressure points that are known for being helpful to pregnant women that are trying to induce labor and have that beautiful baby.
This pressure point is located in the middle of the webbing between you’re thumb and first finger. Once you locate this area, press down firmly and gently rub the area for a minute or so to stimulate the point.
The Shoulder Well
This point is located in the trapezius muscle, the large muscle that connects your neck to your shoulder. To locate this point, find the highest point where this muscle connects to the neck, then place 4 of your fingers at that point. Where the width of these fingers ends, is the location of this point. Press firmly to stimulate.
The Big Stream
This pressure point is located in the depression behind the inner ankle bone and in front of the Achilles tendon, just above the heel bone. Again, apply gentle firm pressure, rubbing gently to stimulate.
Three Yin Crossing
This is a point that is particularly helpful for women like myself, that start out with very slow and weak labor contractions. Stimulating this pressure point will help to strengthen, your labor contractions. This point is located approximately 2 and a half inches above the inside ankle bone. Apply firm, gentle pressure intermittently. For more effectiveness with this pressure point try walking in between point stimulations.
As I stated earlier in the above paragraph, this point can be particularly helpful to women with slow labor in the beginning. Women who have had multiple children might find themselves having this problem because the uterus loses it’s strength after many pregnancies, so using this pressure point can be very beneficial to these women.
At the end of your pregnancy the anxiousness and discomfort your feeling can feel like more than you can bear. Hang in there, your baby is on it’s way and using these acupressure methods will help bring forth the precious life you’re so eager to meet.
