When you plan a wedding you put your heart and soul into the decorations that make your wedding setting beautiful. However, on the day of your wedding the pace of events is so fast that it is easy to forget to appreciate all your hard work and to truly appreciate the beautiful setting that you have created. Fortunately, there are ways that you can preserve a few choice items from your wedding and wedding reception to help you hold on to the memories of the best day of your life.
Tip #1 – Preserving Your Wedding Flowers
The first things that you will want to preserve are your wedding flowers. Now you can’t preserve every petal from your wedding, but you can preserve a few choice floral arrangements. To start with you will want to save a few stems from your bridal bouquet. Since you will be tossing the main bouquet to a single woman at the wedding reception you will want to select one or two flowers from the bouquet to preserve after your wedding ceremony. You will also want to preserve your husband’s boutonniere. You can preserve both of these things by hanging them upside down and allowing them to dry. If you want them to retain their shape and fullness then you can also preserve them using hairspray.
Tip #2 – Create Wedding Flower Potpourri
Another way to preserve your wedding flowers is to turn your decorative wedding flowers into a potpourri. You do this by gather the petals from your floral arrangements and centerpieces. Place these petals on a cookie sheet that has been lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle the petals with baking soda and allow them to dry. You will want to toss the petals gently every day to ensure moisture doesn’t build up on the bottom of the pan.
Tip #3 – Laminate a Wedding Announcement
Another wedding souvenir that you will want to preserve is a copy of your wedding announcement. To protect it from sun and moisture damage you can laminate the wedding announcement. This can be done by placing the announcement in a lamination pocket and send the pocket through a lamination machine. This will melt the plastic around the announcement and seal out moisture, dust and other harmful elements.
Tip #4 – Create a Wedding Scrapbook
To preserve wedding souvenirs like photographs, wrapping paper samples, cards and other paper items you will want to create a wedding scrapbook. This can be done using wedding themed scrapbooking pages, stickers and punchers. You will want to arrange your wedding souvenirs on multiple pages and make sure you label each entry so you remember what you were thinking, feeling or doing. You can even make comments on what your guests were doing and if they were having fun.
Tip #5 – Preserving the Top of Your Wedding Cake
One souvenir that most couples try to save is the top of their wedding cake. No tradition dictates that you save the top of the wedding cake to eat on your first anniversary, but by this time the cake is going to be a little funky. If you want to save the top of your wedding cake then consider preserving it. Preserving something edible like cake is not as difficult as it sounds, as the sugar acts like a preservation agent, however, to prevent mold and decomposition of the cake you will need to place it in an airtight contain and keep it out of direct sun and warm temperatures.
