Who said biopics had to be boring? This is a look at seven of the sexiest movies about the lives of seven of the sexiest women of all time. From dancers to a model, actress, and a pin up girl, these beautiful women sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry by using their sex appeal to gain many fans (also making many enemies along the way). So if you’re looking for movies about some of the sexiest real women that have ever existed starring some of the sexiest actresses ever, check out a few of these unique biopics:
Gia – Angelina Jolie wasn’t the name she is now when she made this movie about Gia Carangi, one of the sexiest and most popular models of the 70s and 80s, but many of her fans now know all about ‘Gia’. Angelina Jolie’s scenes that showcase Gia’s private life are what got the most attention in this movie; the model was bisexual, and one of her relationships with another woman is depicted in the movie, and it’s also popular for having a few nude scenes. But despite ‘Gia’ being known for a lot of the sex scenes, the movie itself tackles other tough issues, like Gia’s tumultuous past, drug use, and eventual struggle with AIDS that led to her death at age 26. It’s not one of the most well-executed biopics you’ll ever see, but it is an interesting and powerful look at one of the most unique beauties of the time.
The Josephine Baker Story – Josephine Baker could be credited as being the first Angelina Jolie; she did adopt a whole brood of children herself, after all. But despite being a great humanitarian, what 20’s and 30’s star Josephine Baker is most well-known for are her wild dances, most notably the “banana dance” where she donned a skirt that looked as if it was made from the phallic fruits. She often would dance nude and posed for many nude pictures, but she also had an amazing voice and was an incredibly talented opera singer. Josephine Baker is also the first African American woman to star in a major motion picture; she was a successful civil rights activist; and was a muse for many great artists of her time. She was definitely one of the sexiest women of her time, and during a period when it was nearly impossible for black artists to make it in show business in any shape or form, she became a beloved superstar. Josephine Baker was also known for keeping a pet cheetah; was a good friend of Grace Kelly; was a spy for the French resistance; and may have been bisexual. Of course, this woman’s incredibly colorful and amazing life couldn’t be crammed into two hours, and it’s a real shame that more people don’t know more about one of the most unique women of the entertainment industry that was also such an amazing humanitarian. It’s another of the biopics on this list that are far from perfect, but it is entertaining and captures a bit of Josephine Baker’s fiery spirit and lust for life.
Gypsy – This is another one of the sexiest women here known for their dancing, and this is one of the most popular biopics out there. Natalie Wood plays a toned-down version of Gypsy Rose Lee, a gorgeous burlesque performer that was a striptease expert. She stood out from other burlesque acts of her time by combining humor with her show, turning her into one of the biggest burlesque stars ever. Like Josephine Baker, Gypsy also starred in a few movies, so if you’d rather see the real deal than Natalie Wood’s take on the life of one of the sexiest women of the stage, check out some of the movies that Gypsy Lee Rose has graced with her quirky presence.
Norma Jean & Marilyn – The Jell-O on stilts high heels of Marilyn Monroe are extremely tough to fill, but Ashley Judd (as Norma Jean) and Mira Sorvino (as Marilyn Monroe) do their best to portray her two personalities. This definitely isn’t one of the best biopics on this list, since a lot of it has been fictionalized, but it is still entertaining and will have to do until someone tries to make a better Marilyn Monroe biopic. Plus Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd are two of the sexiest women in Hollywood, so it’s great to see the two together here.
Mata Hari – Mata Hari is one of the most fascinating women on this list. She was born in the Netherlands; moved to Indonesia when she answered an ad in the newspaper posted by a Dutch man looking for a wife; left him; and began studying Indonesian dance. She temporarily reunited with her husband before leaving him for good and moving to Paris. Here she posed as an artist’s model and performed as a horseback rider in the circus before gaining popularity as an exotic dancer. She posed nude and was not afraid to show off her body while dancing, and she was known for her very free-spirited attitude. Eventually, however, she was criticized for being nothing more than an exhibitionist that really could not dance as her style of exotic dance became more and more popular, and her promiscuous lifestyle also came under scrutiny. Like Josephine Baker, she was a spy, but during World War I, and at age 41, she was executed by a firing squad for spying for the Germans. Greta Garbo portrays another of the most fascinating women on this list in yet another of the biopics here that were made during a time period where it was impossible to tell it like it really was (so it was fictionalized a lot), but, as one of the sexiest and most talented actresses to ever grace the silver screen, she does an excellent job of bringing a woman whose life is almost too bizarre to be true to life.
The Notorious Bettie Page – This dark-haired beauty with a leather fetish has become known as one of the most popular and sexiest pinup girls of all time, and she’s one of the women on this list whose popularity definitely hasn’t faded over the years. In one of the more modern biopics on this list, Gretchen Mol stars as the fetish model that went mainstream, and unlike many of the older biopics on this list, there were realistic nude scenes in this movie. It’s one of the movies that tries to take a more accurate approach to the life of its subject, also focusing on the darker points of Bettie Page’s life. It’s one of the better biopics on this list about one of the sexiest starlets to ever don a whip and have fun with bondage (and then turn to Jesus Christ).
Isadora Duncan – Vanessa Redgrave portrays one of the women responsible for modern dance, Isadora Duncan, another free-spirited woman popular around same time as Mata Hari. Isadora was known for her primitive but powerful dance style, which she didn’t try to make look pretty. She, like Josephine Baker, would sometimes dance nude or semi-nude, and, like many of the other women on this list, she had a tumultuous love life that included bisexual relationships. Isadora also has the unfortunate honor of the most bizarre death of the women on this list; she was killed when one of her beloved long scarves that was flowing out of the car she was in became caught in one of the spokes and axles of one of the wheels.
The women on this list aren’t just starts of some of the sexiest biopics you’ll ever see; they’re also fascinating historical figures that have had a great impact on the world we live in. Their lives are so amazing that they almost seem unreal, so its only fitting that they are all portrayed through the magic of movies.
