Every once in awhile the gaming industry comes out with a title that really appeals to the fans out there and sets the bar for other games. Here today I want to talk about the recently released video game Borderlands that everyone is talking so much about for various reasons. I’m gonna provide a review and offer some Borderlands tips and hints as well.
Borderlands offers a unique blend of RPG (role-playing game) and FPS (first-person shooter). This isn’t a bad thing at all and it is a good change from the traditional games of each type. Just think of Final Fantasy or Diablo except with guns and military characters. There are several different types of characters to choose from that have different abilities and skill trees to upgrade during the game. This means that there is a good deal of replay value if you want to go through each class as you uncover and learn more tips and hints.
Now there is something about Borderlands that some gamers are complaining about and that is the graphics. It really doesn’t offer the stunning visuals of some other titles but they were going for a different scheme. The best way I can describe it is that it looks the most like a comic book. I think it works and is creative and different that the same old stuff that so many companies are throwing out with every new game.
One of the areas that fans were talking about long before Borderlands even was released was the weapons. According to some sources there literally hundreds of thousands of different guns on the game. If you played Diablo then think about all the different types of weapons and factor in all the unique abilities and you can see how this is possible with a ton of guns and different attributes and abilities. For example there might be 1,000 variations of one type of gun with different reload speeds, magazine capacity, firepower etc. to be found on dead enemies. So the deal here isn’t to conserve ammo like in many of the Resident Evil games but simply finding the weapon that works the best for your needs as you play Borderlands.
One of the tips and hints that I have about weapons on Borderlands is about customizing the guns. Apparently there was a ton of talk when the game was in production about being able to customize certain guns on the game. In the past we have seen games like Resident Evil where you could add a different stock or scope to a weapon later in the game. Well that isn’t the case here with Borderlands so pretty much what you find is what you get in terms of weaponry.
Another bit of advice that I have to offer in terms of Borderlands tips and hints is about finding the scope and stock to certain weapons during the Quest. This is something that many people are having difficulty with because the waypoints aren’t all that great at times. However one good piece of advice in terms of tips and hints is to try and get on high ground and look for the green glow that comes off objects. Some of them may not be where you expect so make sure and look really good in certain areas. For example the scope for the combat rifle is in the top of the shacks and some people have said there is a glitch where you can actually get it through the wall from the adjacent building.
