Portland, Oregon has a wealth of haunted houses every year for the brave to visit. Some of these are geared towards adults only but others are fun for children.
Here is a list of some of the top ones that you should not miss this 2009 Halloween season.
1) Fright Town located beneath the Memorial Colosseum at the Rose Quarter.
This event is held every year and very anticipated by locals. It is not a place to bring small children, in my opinion. This year there will be three haunted houses set up beneath the Colosseum. These houses will be The Asylum, Baron Von Goolo’s Museum of Horrors, and the Chop Shop.
Admission is $20 per person but you can print a $5 off coupon from their website. The twenty dollar admission gains you admission into all three haunted houses. They do allow children of all ages but I have personally visited these haunted houses and I would not recommend them for any child under ten. However, it is up to your discretion. All children are different.
This year they will actually be offering weddings that are legal to be performed at Baron Von Goolo’s Museum of Horrors.
They will be open Oct 4-5, 10th-12th, 16th-19th, 24th to Halloween, and Nov 1st. Their hours are Sunday-Thursday 7pm-10pm and Friday-Saturday from 7pm-11pm.
Please visit their website for more information or to print an admission coupon.
2) Scream At The Beach at the Jantzen Beach Center at 1772 Jantzen Beach Center
Portland OR 97217-7847
This haunted house attraction was ranked the 3rd best in the nation by AOL.
Their hours will be Oct 2nd-3rd, 8th-10th, 15th-31st. Their hours are 7pm-10pm Sunday thru Thursday, and 7pm-11pm Friday thru Saturday. Tickets are $20 per person and if you wish to ride the carnival rides then its $12 for a wristband for the rides.
Please visit their website for more information on this very scary haunted house. They do welcome children of all ages but it is open to your discretion because it is quite scary.

4) Fantasy Trail located at 19754 South Ridge Road, Oregon City, Oregon 97045
This delightful trail was close to my house last year. We visited it not knowing what to expect and it was wonderful. I cannot recommend it high enough. I took my three year old daughter there and she had a blast. It was truly fun for the whole family.
It sits on a local farm and is a well lit trail that goes through the forest. There is a haunted stone house with various scenes depicted and some animation and a small cast of characters. It is all very well done and excellent for adults and children. There are smaller houses for children to explore, there are even slides that children can slide down while looking at the Halloween scenes, and there is a haunted maze to find your way out of.
The whole experience was very enjoyable and reasonably priced.
They charge is only $4.00 for adults and $3.50 for children under twelve. It was worth that and much more because it was quite impressive.
They are open every day Oct 1st thru 31st except Sunday Oct 4th. Their hours are 7pm-10pm.
This was one of the best Halloween experiences that we had. I really enjoyed this place.
