I am a fan of many Uncle Ben’s food products. Recently, I spotted a new Uncle Ben’s product in the rice section of my local grocery store. I had seen many TV ads for this product so, I decided to purchase it, try it out and write a product review about it. Here is what I discovered about Uncle Ben’s Garden Vegetable Ready Rice!
I discovered right away that Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice comes a very wide array of flavors. Sixteen of them, actually. Wow, I was not prepared for the rice flavor choice difficulty that I was suddenly faced with. There was garden vegetable, basmati, jasmine, original long grain, whole brown, roasted chicken, long grain & wild, Spanish style, rice pilaf, chicken whole grain brown, butter & garlic flavored, teriyaki style, creamy four cheese flavored, Cajun style, original long grain family size and roasted chicken family size. A rice flavor for almost every occasion! Except beef flavored rice, one of my favorites. That flavor was absent from this line of rice, unfortunately. Oh well. Maybe it will be added later.
I finally chose Uncle Ben’s Garden Vegetable Ready Rice to try out. I figured that flavor would go with a wide variety of different meals and I wouldn’t have a problem matching it to an entree. This rice costs one dollar and ninety-nine cents for one bag. One bag only serves two people. This product is affordable but, not very budget friendly if you have a large family to feed. Still, one of it’s main attractions is it’s convenience. This rice can be microwaved in it’s package and is ready to serve in ninety seconds flat. Wow. Speedy rice. I did like that.
Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice comes in a cool bag. You only have to squeeze the bag to separate the rice, tear one corner open to vent, heat on high for ninety seconds in the microwave. That is it! This bag also has a cool spot to grab after cooking so you can remove it safely from the microwave without burning your fingers. Nice touch. I liked many things about this product. As I tried it, I noticed that the so called peas, carrots and corn in this rice are actually very tiny bits of the vegetables. This rice has a nice yellow color. This rice did clump together slightly and it is also a bit dry. It does have a nice flavor but, it is very, very subtle. A bit bland, in my opinion. I found myself wishing that I had chosen the creamy four cheese flavored rice to try out. Oh well.
I rate Uncle Ben’s Garden Vegetable Ready Rice three stars out of five stars. Maybe some of the other flavors are much tastier, I hope. This rice is very handy, quick to prepare and easy to serve. This product has a lot of good things going for it. It is cholesterol free, low in fat and it has vitamins and minerals in it. It is a bit high in sodium content, though. No saturated fat and a good source of iron. You can also prepare this rice in a skillet, if you wish to do so. This product is one hundred percent naturally flavored. Hmm. Maybe it needed a bit more help in that area, in my opinion.
One serving of Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice Garden Vegetable flavor has two hundred calories in it. Only twenty-five of these calories come from fat. One serving has two and one half grams of total fat, zero grams of saturated fat, zero grams of trans fat, cholesterol free, eight hundred and thirty mgs of sodium, one hundred and twenty-five mgs of potassium, forty-one grams of total carbs, one gram of dietary fiber, one gram of sugars and four grams of protein. This rice has iron, vitamin A, C, calcium, folate, thiamin and niacin in it.
I did enjoy writing a product review about Uncle Ben’s Garden Vegetable Ready Rice. I was very curious about this product. You can find Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice in the rice section of most grocery stores that you shop at. You can also visit the unclebens.com web site for more information about this product. I will probably not buy the garden vegetable rice again but, I plan on giving the creamy four cheese flavored rice a try. This Uncle Ben’s new rice line is creative and different.
