Doing research on the internet is a great way to find information on wedding gowns but nothing is the same as physically driving to a store to see the gowns first hand. While surfing the net Priscilla of Boston came up under the SEO for bridal gowns and I was amazed. This website was extremely easy to navigate and showed video clips of each gown from the Priscilla of Boston runway fashion shows. By showing the dresses this way it was easy to see the movement and flow of the gown but I wanted to see them in person. Finding the nearest location was a breeze and I realized there was one here in the Chicago area of Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.
Priscilla of Boston has all of the events listed and this was the week-end for one of the trunk shows. Calling ahead I made and appointment for Sunday. This is a good recommendation for any bride-to-be even though it is not necessary. This allows the ladies of the shop to make themselves readily available to you in case you decide to try the gowns on or if you have any questions that need to be answered.
Priscilla of Boston is situated in a free standing building and parking is in the back. Once arriving, I was very surprised at the set up of the building because the salon was smaller than I had expected. After a closer look I realized it is because the many fitting rooms they offered to brides-to-be were extremely large in comparison. Each room is equipped with a desk, chair and ottoman making it easier for an assistant or friend to help with the gowns and to take notes.
Kelly Cooper, the assistant manager, showed me some of the dresses and informed me there were many more dresses in the back in case there was something else I would like to see. There were two racks of dresses that were designated for shorter gowns and several racks for longer, more traditional gowns. I am using the term “traditional” loosely. Even the traditional gowns were anything but plain, boring traditional gowns.
The gowns were…Exceptional. Stunning. Breathtaking. Magnificent to say the least. Short and long gowns alike were beautifully crafted with lace, tulle, silk, organza, chiffon and bead work. From short to long gowns each one had a unique look. This is because Priscilla of Boston has expert pattern makers who oversee each delicate detail put into the dress. Each piece is cut individually by hand so it is exclusive to the bride and each bead is sewn on by hand, as well. Every detail from the material chosen to the stitching is done meticulously by experts so each bride may have the gown of their dreams. Not only were the gowns fabulous but clients may take pictures of themselves in the gowns they try on. It is a great way for them to remember each item they had an interest in.
These gowns were all in a standard size eight in the showroom but when ordering the gown it is custom made for you. Sizes range from 0-24 and custom muslin fits are also available for ladies who need the fit to be a bit more gracious. The standard order time for a gown is 16-18 weeks but the Platinum gowns take 7-8 months. The Platinum line is heavily embellished with beautiful bead work causing the finished product to take quite a bit more time in the making. Not only did Priscilla of Boston carry beautiful gowns but there was a line of vintage costume jewelry, as well as, dyeable shoes and clutches available.
Besides the beautiful quality of the gowns the ladies at Priscilla of Boston were not your average sales ladies. Kelly and the staff were courteous, knowledgeable and performing a quality of customer service I have not seen in quite a while. Anyone may say it is because they are selling very high end gowns but I have been to many places that sell high end merchandise and their customer service has been awful.
Overall, the experience at Priscilla’s was fantastic and the merchandise was everything a bride would hope for it to be.
