Marley and Me is a very touching story that is a good movie to watch for National Dogs Day. My family just finished watching the movie Marley and Me for the first time. We were all deeply touched as we watched the movie staring a yellow Labrador retriever named Marley. My family’s faithful yellow Labrador retriever Custer was watching the movie Marley and Me with the family. It was great fun for us as we watched the movie Marley and Me to see that someone else had trouble with their yellow Labrador retriever just like we did. At the end of the movie we were all in tears and we all gave Custer a hug and went off to bed.
In the morning when I walked into the living room and said good morning to Custer he did not get up. Something was terribly wrong with our fifteen year old yellow Labrador retriever. He could not get up and stand on his legs. This is a terrible thing to happen even if you had not just watched the movie Marley and Me but to have it happen just after seeing that tear jerking movie was doubly upsetting.
Custer is small for a Labrador but still too heavy for me to carry so my husband took Custer outside to see if that would help him get moving? A dog that is fifteen years old can go at anytime and it seemed to us that the worse was about to happen. Outside did not make any difference so we brought Custer back inside and made him comfortable.
We needed to be at separate places in the morning so we decided to wait and see if he got better as the morning went by before we took Custer to see the doctor. A dog that old makes you afraid to take to the doctor right away because you always have a feeling that you won’t be bringing you friend home again.
I started to pick up the house before I had to leave and as I did I found a belt buckle that had about a half inch of belt still connected to it. Huh? What is this belt buckle with only a half inch of belt on it? Custer ate the belt. Why would Custer eat a belt? Custer is not a chewer so we never worry about him eating anything.
As the day progressed Custer seemed to be getting better so we decided to wait another day before we did anything. Our decision was right. That night Custer did his job in the front yard and low and behold there was the rest of the belt and Custer could walk again.
My son thinks that Custer was just high because the belt was made of hemp. Maybe that is so but what ever happened, Custer is better now and the belt is in the front lawn.
Last night as I lay down on the living room floor with Custer shivering by me as a thunderstorm rolls by I remember how special my Custer is. Happy National Dogs Day to all the wonderful Dogs out there. And to the people who share your house with a dog keep your belts off of the floor.
