A Variety of Winter Craft Projects

by sawpan

Winter time is upon us and themed crafts turn from fall leaves to winter scenes. Here are some ideas for easy crafts to make with a winter theme.

Mitten Themed Puppets

Socks make great puppets, but in the winter it’s time for mitten puppets. Mittens made of yarn are wonderful puppets for your kids to have shadow box performances with. Set eyes with craft glue and add feathers, felt, cardboard, construction paper, and whichever items you wish to your mitten puppet whether it is a winter themed puppet or not. Penguins, snowmen, reindeer, snow angels, or even a snowflake puppet are all ideas to make.

For your scene in front of the puppets you can take a shoe box and draw a three-dimensional scene of a snow bank, a house decked out for winter, an igloo, or whatever snow scene comes to mind. Make socks, cotton balls, and cotton poly fill as part of your snow scene.

Balloon Snowmen

Take small white balloons and instead of filling them with air or water, use cotton poly fill to round out the small balloons for a snowman you can draw on, glue on, and add whatever snowman accessories you see fit such as arms, hats, and animals. Make the bottom part of the snowman a bigger balloon by putting in more poly fill, the middle one with a little less, and the head with a little less poly fill. If you need to cut off parts of the balloon instead of tying them off, you can do so and have the hole be connected to one of the other two pieces so it doesn’t show up in the craft.

Try using a red balloon for a huge Santa baloon with poly fill or a green balloon for a rotund Christmas tree with all the decorations. You can draw on them with markers or glue on three dimensional pieces as needed.

Christmas Tree Craft Stick Ornaments

Simple craft stick ornaments in the shapes of Christmas trees are simple to make with three craft sticks and then you can add decorations such as miniature bells, cotton balls, mulicolored balls, glitter, stickers, and different felt pieces hanging in the midst of the tree. Buy green colored craft sticks that would fit a Christmas theme.

Make ornaments or crafts larger by having more sticks glued together and you can make entire pages that hang in the middle and make a triagular picture frame in a Christmas theme. Add pictures and collages to pieces of paper to glue all around the craft sticks and then tie a string to the top of the triangle and hang it easily against a wall. The possibilities with craft stick frames are endless.
