Adam Lambert’s AMA performance video is being talked about more than any AMA performance. The Adam Lambert AMA performance wasn’t exactly what all of Lambert’s fans were expecting, and now some of those same fans that cheered Adam Lambert through American Idol are turning up their noses. On one hand the Adam Lambert AMA performance should have been exactly what should have been expected, because Lambert has always gone for the glitz, glamor, and spectacle when it comes to his performances. That’s exactly what he gave his fans during the Sunday night American Music Awards, but not everyone is acting kindly to his performance.
The Adam Lambert AMA performance began with Lambert on the stage alone, and evolved into a huge production with many dancers and performers on the stage with him. In a multi-leveled set piece that had dancers, models, and musicians crawling all over it, Lambert made his way from side to side as he interacted with all of them before making it the top of the set at the end of the number. Along the way though, there were people being led as dogs on collars and leashes, some grinding with models, and even a sequence where a dancer came down a poll and into his lap where Lambert groped her in a pretty shocking way. Lambert then made his way up towards the top of the stage construction and briefly made-out with a male performer.
The performance by Adam Lambert may have been a bit shocking to those fans who have only tuned in to American Idol to see Lambert perform, and who were not expecting what they got when Lambert performed his new single. Many message boards around the internet as well as articles about the event are being lit up with messages from people that were disappointed in the way that Lambert carried out his performance. There were a lot of them that couldn’t believe what he was doing on stage. To all of them, I must ask the question of how this was different than anything Madonna or numerous other female stars have done on stage. Is it just because Lambert is a male that he can’t do these kinds of things on stage?
In his performance of “For Your Entertainment”, Adam Lambert was just being himself, singing a song he worked hard on, and performing a number that looked like it took a ton of rehearsal to get down perfectly. With that being said, what is really wrong with the way he carried himself on stage? Yes, it was a bit shocking to behold, and yes, it’s a good thing that they waited until late in the 10:00 P.M. hour to air his performance, but it wasn’t quite as bad as people are making it out to be. It’s one thing to not like the song, but it’s just an AMA performance and those who expected it to be world-changing need to fully realize that.
