Aging skin signs are a concern for many people in their 50s. Here are 10 tips on caring for aging skin and some top skin care products.
1 Sunscreen Products
Protecting your skin from the sun is critical to combating aging skin signs. Use sunscreen products daily and apply them generously. You don’t have to use expensive products. Try store brand products or No-Ad Sunblock Lotion.
Getting enough sleep is vital to help aging skin look good. By your 50s, you may have difficulties sleeping so use all the natural aids (regular hours, dark room, earplugs, warm baths).
3 Diet Dos
A good diet is also good skin care. Drink lots of water and eat a balanced, low calorie diet with lots of whole grains, fresh vegetables and healthy fats like olive oil.
4 Diet Don’ts
Eliminate or minimize your intake of items that are bad for aging skin like sugar, caffeine and excessive alcohol.
Regular exercise is also part of good skin care. Engage in regular stretching, strengthening and aerobic exercises. Find what works for you and be realistic. You’ll benefit more from a brisk walk than a gym membership you never use.
6 Skin Cleansing Products
Use gentle skin cleansing products daily. I like Cetaphil and Olay products. And there’s no point waiting for bedtime. Cleanse your skin as soon as you know you’re home for the night to get all the environmental pollutants off as soon as possible. You’ll be helping your aging skin out.
7 Skin Exfoliating Products
Exfoliating products immediately brighten your skin by getting rid of the top dead cells. But be gentle. Especially if your skin is dry, you may not need them every day. Some good brands are Neutrogena and Aveda.
8 Skin Moisturizing Products
Using moisturizing products daily also helps aging skin to feel and look better. You don’t have to waste money on expensive products that make unsubstantiated claims about removing all wrinkles. I especially like Olay products.
9 Lip Care Products
Lips are delicate and need special skin care products. I like Olay Regenerist Anti-Aging Lip Treatment. It’s not surgery but it does make a visible difference in those vertical lines around my lips.
10 Hair Color Products
Changing your hair color can dramatically improve the appearance of aging skin. Some people look great with gray hair. But some people enjoy hair color as a cheap way to look much younger. Home hair color products have come a long way in recent years. I like L’Oréal and Clairol products.
