All About Steve reviews all tell the same story, with every All About Steve review regretting the movie’s very existence. All About Steve reviews are at the same negative level one would expect for a horror sequel, or mindless action film. But even those movies have some positive reviews, something that cannot be found in any of the All About Steve reviews. In fact, there are practically no positive All About Steve reviews to be found at all thus far.
What kind of movie has inspired that level of hate? All About Steve may seem like another harmless Sandra Bullock comedy, but critics say otherwise, and found out the hard way. Bullock appears to have creeped everyone out as Mary, a crossword puzzle constructor who believes she has found her true love in a blind date, CNN cameraman Bradley Cooper. So she follows him and co-workers Thomas Haden Church and Ken Jeong around the country to prove it to him.
This summer, All About Steve got a little boost due to Bullock’s summer success in The Proposal, and Cooper’s rise to stardom with The Hangover. But all of that goodwill has been utterly destroyed, according to countless negative All About Steve reviews.
Primarily, the problem is with Bullock and how she stalks her one true love across America. Bullock has made many things cute before, but stalking doesn’t appear to be one of them. Still, many romantic dramas and comedies involve men borderline stalking their true female love across great distances – even last year’s Best Picture Slumdog Millionaire – without so much criticism.
Perhaps it would be more forgivable to critics if the movie made stalking funny, which All About Steve presumably does not. Bullock is too grating to be funny to many critics, while Cooper’s success as a straight-man in The Hangover doesn’t appear to have carried over.
The only reason now to pay attention to All About Steve reviews is to see if one positive review breaks through. Rotten Tomatoes has a whopping 2% positive review total, with an average rating of 2.4 out of 10. Only the Globe and Mail at Toronto is giving the movie a good write up – but there are still no positive All About Steve reviews from critics in the United States.
The Rotten Tomatoes consensus says it all with “All About Steve is an oddly creepy, sour film, featuring a heroine so desperate and peculiar that audiences may be more likely to pity than root for her.”
It would appear that Bullock’s latest star turn is merely the latest black mark against female movie characters in general, a la Bride Wars, He’s Just Not That Into You and The Ugly Truth. Even The Final Destination, Halloween 2 and Gamer stand to have better reviews at this point.
