My kids are having to watch their pennies this year, which means that Christmas gift shopping for Dad will probably take place at the Dollar store. Dollar stores are my new favorite store this year, because darn it, it’s really hard to beat a $1 price tag when finances are so strained.
While there’s no arguing that some dollar store stuff is cheap and cheap looking, there’s still plenty of great bargains to find for Dad. Here’s just a few ideas of cheap $1 gifts that kids can buy their Dads for Christmas.
Movie Theater boxed candy. It’s at the dollar store where kids can find movie theater size boxed candy in a huge range of sizes. When paired up with a free Red Box coupon, this makes a fantastic gift that Dad will enjoy. To get a free Red Box coupon, join the Red Box Codes site here.
Holiday Mug. The dollar stores are filled with lots of cute Christmas mugs that are affordable for kids to buy. To make the mug extra special for Dad, the kids can buy single pot bags of Christmas coffee blends which can be placed in the Christmas mug and wrapped up with cellowrap and a pretty Christmas ribbon. Single pot bags of Christmas coffee are available at most grocery stores and run around 90 cents for a 1.5 ounce bag. The mugs could also be filled with bulk hard candies, chocolates, or other yummy treats.
Christmas tie. The Dollar Tree franchise of dollar stores actually carries Christmas ties bedecked with iconic Christmas images. For a Dad with a great sense of humor, a Christmas tie would make a fun gift that he can wear to a Christmas party.
Mini reading clip lamp. For Dads who love to read, a dollar store mini reading lamp is a practical gift that will see lots of use. These miniature reading lamps clamp directly onto the book and make reading in bed easier. Remember to buy some extra batteries for this gift.
Flashlight for the car. You can never have enough flashlights, and for $1, the kids can buy Dad a dollar store flashlight to keep in the glove box of the car. To personalize the flashlight, the kids can decorate the casing with glitter glue or fabric paints.
Mini eyeglass repair kits. For the Dad who wears eyeglasses or sunglasses, a dollar store mini repair kit is a practical gift that will see lots of use. These tiny repair kits usually come with a miniature screwdriver and extra screws.
Decorated ornament. Dollar Tree has large 5″ glass ball ornaments that would be fun for a child to customize for Dad. Glitter glues and fabric paint such as Scribbles, can turn a ho-hum ball ornament into a one-of-a-kind piece of Christmas art that Dad would enjoy displaying year round.
