Almost Golf Point3 Practice Golf Balls: Review – My husband and I are avid golfers, and we are continually looking for products that will help us improve our game. Several weeks ago when I was checking out the sale prices on golf equipment in my local Fred Meyer store, these Almost Golf Balls stood out, and I had to give them a second look. What I read so impressed me that I paid the $10 for the box of 10 practice golf balls, and have been enjoying them ever since!
Almost Golf practice balls come in a small green colored box, with a picture of Dave Pelz holding one of the yellow balls. Behind Dave are four homes in a subdivision, showing how, as Dave states, “The Point3 golf ball turns your backyard into a practice range”.
The balls are the same size as a traditional golf ball, and they are covered with the dimples unique to the golf ball. They also read “Almost Golf” in black letters. They are made of a very dense rubber.
How To Use Them
The Point3 golf ball is a natural choice for practicing in your backyard, because hitting this ball truly does feel much like hitting a normal golf ball, they come off of the club face almost the same, but the Point3 golf balls will only go one third the distance!
We use the Point3 golf balls with all of our golf club, even our drivers, and we haven’t had to worry about them going 200 yards, or doing damage to our property.
The back of the box states that you don’t have to soften your swing, fearing the ball can’t handle the force, resistance or velocity. The distances off of my different clubs really does do what they claim, they “correlate to actual distance with a regulation ball”.
Furthermore, the box states that these balls will have realistic flight characteristics, allowing you to hit the ball straight, to fade or to draw. In a nutshell, these balls respond very much like a normal golf ball does, allowing you to practice your golf swing, how you are hitting the ball, the best stance, and your follow through. Last, the box claims that the Point3 Almost Golf practice balls are neighborhood safe!, they haven’t gone farther than about 40 yards!
I have used these balls to practice my drives and my swing, but the best use of them is for practicing my chipping, which really does feel almost like the real thing, and this has really improved my game, taking a few strokes off of my score!
Although my balls are yellow, they also come in white, blue and orange colors. These are the official balls of the Dave Pelz Scoring Schools.
GolfWeek magazine voted these balls the “Best product to impact the future of golf”. They claim to be “the first CO2 pressurized practice ball with real ball flight and performance”.
These Almost Golf Balls are a great practice ball. Our yard is quite large, but there is no way we can practice our hitting and swing with a real golf ball, as they would get lost in the woods! Using these balls in our front yard mean that I can get in my practice, but I don’t have to worry about the balls getting hit too far so that I lose them.
I would not say that the feel is exactly the same as hitting a real golf ball, because they are simply not as heavy and compact, but these are by far the best practice balls I have used to date, and we have purchased two other brands, so we can indeed make some comparisons. Foam balls tend to compress between the impact of the ball and the club, and plastic balls don’t have realistic flight movement. These Point3 balls do, and I love them! They are a great training aid for the serious golfer!
