When Thanksgiving Day rolls around this year, you may just be tired of the traditional turkey and dressing menu. If so, here are some alternative Thanksgiving dinner ideas and menus for you to consider. Just be sure and warn your family and friends that you will be doing something “different” for this Thanksgiving. They may die of shock, if you don’t and no one wants that. Pass the smelling salts. Pass the gravy. No gravy? Pass out. Just kidding. Get ready for a fun Thanksgiving.
For the seafood lover. I call this the “From the sea” Thanksgiving. Start with baked salmon, lots of butter, sea salt and lemon. You can substitute lobster, fish or shrimp for this main entree. Baked, broiled or grilled always works. Yum. Follow that with baked potatoes, hey, they will recognize this side dish as being somewhat Thanksgiving. Add oyster dressing, one of my favorites. Many recipes for this creative culinary delight can be Googled. That is “Googled”, not “gurgled”, OK? OK! You can throw in coleslaw or a green salad. For dessert, Key Lime pie, what else? Oh, this is a sea faring Thanksgiving that all will remember. Ahoy, matey. Anchors away!
The Ham is for Thanksgiving. Bake a ham, with pineapple juice and pineapple rings all over it. Yum. Add potato salad, corn bread, green beans, baked sweet potatoes, collard greens, see Google again, and for dessert, a huge banana pudding. I do not think that you will get a complaint about this delicious and unusual alternative Thanksgiving dinner menu. Be sure and serve sweet tea and cola.
A Thanksgiving beef roast. Yep. Bake a huge roast, complete with gravy. Be sure your roast has onions and mushrooms on it! Add baked potatoes, cooked carrots and a green salad. Throw in some rolls, followed by a big chocolate pie for dessert. Yum. This menu makes an excellent Thanksgiving dinner alternative meal. It is easy, fun and very different.
The “I’ll fly away” baked chicken Thanksgiving dinner. OK. Who does not like baked chicken smothered in mushroom gravy? Follow that with chicken flavored dressing, macaroni and cheese, butter beans, biscuits and yes, chicken gravy. For dessert, guess what? An apple pie, that is what! Serve with vanilla ice cream or cool whip. Amen. Most with sense will bless this meal. In a good way. Especially if they are tired of turkey.
Turkey? No. Notice, I tried not to mention the word “turkey” in this article. It just slipped in as a “what not to cook thing” and that is OK. If you are avoiding the turkey dinner tradition, this alternative meals and menus for Thanksgiving article should help you! Happy Thanksgiving and do not be afraid to break a few traditions this year. The turkeys are tired of it, too.
