Idol Gives Back will appear again on American Idol.American Idol season nine will feature the third Idol Gives Back charity event, and once again return to something that was great about the show. This is a very smart decision by American Idol, and I am really glad to see that they are bringing back their charity event. This is something that they should be doing every season, and their Idol Gives Back episodes have been two of the best that American Idol has had in eight seasons. The third installment of Idol Gives Back will air on the April 21st episode of American Idol this season.
Idol Gives Back was something that American Idol did in seasons six and seven of the show, and they turned out to be extremely successful for the show. The premise was that it was a day dedicated to taking donations for a specific cause, intended to help out other people through American Idol giving back. In past segments that they filmed, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson went to Africa, and in another one Carrie Underwood participated by visiting another country. Donations were accepted for things like mosquito nets, which are inexpensive to most Americans, but can save the lives of kids in other countries whose parents can’t afford to purchase one for them.
Idol Gives Back has reportedly raised $140 million so far according to The Hollywood Reporter, and that is why this is such a great idea to continue. American Idol is the highest rated television show in the United States right now, which means they have the largest audience, and the most potential to reach people that are willing to give back. By using prime time hours to host this fundraiser, it gives people the easy access to just pick up the phone and donate from their couch at home. American Idol simply makes it easier to help out the cause, and by doing it in the place of one of their typical episodes, they are really providing a great moment of television.
The season nine Idol Gives Back will hope to benefit returning charities Children’s Health Fun, Feeding America, Malaria No More, and Save the Children. Joining the night of charity will be the United Nations Foundation this year. Hopefully American Idol is able to raise money for these very worthy organizations, and that they can work towards saving the lives of many others. The fund raising night is going to be hosted on April 21st, 2010, which will also be an elimination night for the show.
