The AP Top 25 College Football Rankings Poll has been issued for Week 6 and things may be solidifying near the top. Not that the teams at the top won’t lose or face the chance of losing but the top three remain the same for the third week in a row. The top four teams in the AP Top 25 Poll for Week 6 remain the same for the second week in a row. Barring team-shattering problems, the teams that dominate the Top 5 of the AP Top 25 (Week 6) in the college rankings will remain in the Top 10 for the rest of the season.
But at least one of the Top 4 won’t remain in the Top 4 by Week 7. Why? Because #1 Florida takes on #4 LSU Saturday, that’s why. So… someone has to fall. Most are betting that Florida will remain the top-ranked team.
Texas and Alabama stayed at #2 and #3 for Week 6, respectively.
Boise State was shown a little disrespect this week by the AP Top 25 Poll panelists. They dropped a notch to No. 6, while Virginia Tech moved up one to reach the Top 5.
No. 7 remained unchanged. USC holds that position. A solid defeat of California apparently wasn’t enough for them to vault over Boise State as well.
Slots 8, 9, and 10 were held by Cincinnati, Ohio State, and TCU. Ohio State, who was jumped a couple weeks ago, was jumped again this week.
If you’re an NCAA college football fan and you missed the Miami – Oklahoma game Saturday night, go ahead and kick yourself. The #17 Miami Hurricanes offered just enough defense to hold off the #8 Oklahoma, 21-20. Miami jumped six notches to #11. Oklahoma fell 11 spaces to No. 19.
Along with the Miami- Oklahoma game, the Michigan – Michigan State game was definitely one to watch. In the Michigan/Michigan State game, Michigan scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to force an Overtime decision. But Michigan State would not be denied, scoring a touchdown to win over their intrastate rivals, 26-20.
Auburn finally made it into the AP Top 25. Undefeated, with 5 victories, they finally come in at No. 17.
South Florida and Missouri, both football programs that are showing themselves to be perennial Top 25 teams, finally make it into the AP Top 25 college football rankings in Week 6 as well. Both are undefeated and present at #23 and #24, respectively.
Big match-ups coming in Week 7: #21 Nebraska plays #24 Missouri on Thursday (Thursday night college football has been the game to watch for the past couple years, playing havoc with rankings) and #3 Alabama goes up against #20 Mississippi Saturday. A couple interesting games to watch: Michigan will attempt to get back in the AP Top 25 Poll via a defeat of #12 Iowa. Tennessee takes on Georgia. Undefeated and unranked Wisconsin takes on No. 9 Ohio State.
All eyes will be on Florida, though, as they go into Baton Rouge to take on LSU.
