I have been eating organic foods for about three or four years now. I have made a complete switch over also in household products and personal items such as toothpaste and deodorant. Too many people are sick with cancer and other sicknesses due to the amount of chemicals found in conventional products. I am willing to spend more money on organic food. I would rather spend more in the grocery store than giving that extra money to a doctor or hospital.
I shop at Trader Joe’s and the Whole Foods Market. When I go to the regular grocery store, I buy mostly organic products. For breakfast I eat banana crunch cereal or Joe’s oh’s from Trader Joe’s. Sometimes I will eat McCann’s Irish oatmeal which is also all natural. I buy the organic eggs with omega 3 oils which are great for lowering cholesterol. I also eat pancakes from a whole grain pancake mix. When I have toast, I make sure that the bread is either whole wheat or multi grain. You have to watch what kind of bread that you buy from the grocery store. Many times their whole wheat or multi grain breads have other bad ingredients in there like high fructose corn syrup or partially hydrogenated oils. Good bread should really be purchased at a health food store. My local grocery store carries “Bakers” bread and it contains all healthy ingredients. I drink Horizon’s organic milk too.
For lunch I eat mainly organic chicken and turkey cold cuts by Applegate Farms. If I buy directly from the Deli, I make sure to get the Boars head brand which is free of nitrates. I eat whole wheat pasta at times, but then I switch to either flaxseed or Jerusalem pasta. These are all healthier than white pasta. If you are going to eat white pasta, I would suggest the Barilla brand. The pasta is not bleached according to the company. Once a representative told me that the pasta is white because as you keep threshing the wheat, it gets whiter. The whole wheat is more at the top. So no added chemicals or preservatives are in their products.
I also eat Bell & Evans chicken which is very healthy. For snacks, I make sure they are all organic. I love Cape Cod potato chips. They are cooked in a kettle and made with Canola Oil. I love the gummy bears from Trader Joe’s and the lollipops. They are made with fruit juice so all of the sugar is natural. Organic fries have a great taste. All the meat and fish that I buy is organic too.
Not everyone is able to afford the price of organic foods. Even if you can make a change with a few items, it could make a difference in the way you feel. You may start seeing some health improvements. Dairy, fruits, meats and vegetables should definitely be organic because otherwise they are sprayed with chemicals.
