The Avatar teaser trailer is finally online, though more Avatar teaser trailers are to come very soon. The teaser trailer for today is up on Apple, as it is the shorter Avatar teaser trailer for the weekend. The biggest teaser trailer of all is set for IMAX theaters on Friday, as 15 minutes of Avatar footage will be shown for one day only. These Avatar teaser trailers and more kick off the wider hype for James Cameron’s latest attempt to change cinema forever.
The Avatar teaser trailer isn’t the first glimpse of James Cameron’s first narrative film since Titanic – at least not for those who were at Comic Con. An extended Avatar preview showed over 20 minutes of footage at Comic Con, which wowed many, and slightly disappointed some others who bought Cameron’s hype that it was the biggest revolutionary achievement in movie history.
James Cameron has promised that Avatar will redefine cinema, with its vast visual effects in IMAX and 3D. Cameron has always broke ground with visual storytelling, and last made a non-documentary film 12 years ago, before the CGI craze really took off.
The Avatar teaser trailer is the first look for many at what Cameron has done with his new visual toys. So naturally, there is pretty much no dialogue in the Avatar teaser trailer, as it focuses on the brand new world Cameron has created.
The actual movie is about a journey to a lush world called Pandora – whose name is certainly no accident. Terminator Salvation star Sam Worthington plays a man who gets to explore Pandora and blend in with its native population – 10 foot tall blue creatures called Na’Vi. But once Worthington grows to love Pandora – and a female Na’Vi played by Zoe Saldana – he tries to stop his fellow humans from exploiting and destroying the world.
The first Avatar teaser trailer was posted on Apple, but many have had trouble getting onto the site. Therefore, movie websites are trying to embed the file and display the clip, while Apple works through the site troubles – and possible overload of traffic.
This isn’t the first time that Avatar and Cameron fans have overloaded traffic on the web, as they nearly broke the movie’s official website while trying to reserve free tickets for the Avatar IMAX preview on Friday.
Whether James Cameron really has made the greatest visual movie of all time won’t be clear until Avatar is released on December 18. But his fans are clearly chomping at the bit to find out, driving Avatar teaser trailer hype to almost Star Wars like anticipation.
For those who can’t see the teaser trailer online yet, it will premiere in movie theaters on Friday, likely in front of Inglorious Basterds.
