Fall is one of my favorite times of the year to decorate because of the beauty of all the warm fall colors. Oranges, browns, greens and your great neutrals all scream fall with the transformation of our fall foliage. Here are some cheap, inexpensive ways to bring that beauty into your home without breaking the bank.
Decorating with gourds and pumpkins definitely says fall. You can make vases to hold your pretty plants and flowers out of both of these items. Use a gourd that stands on its own. Cut off its stem and widen the opening if necessary, add a handful of flowers and you’re done. For pumpkins, cut out an opening in the top that will be big enough to hold your plant and you’ve created a fall container for your greenery. If you don’t have a garden of your own, gourds and pumpkins are plentiful at your local nursery during the fall season. Bring out your throws and pillows in the fall tones that you may have stored, and you will have brought falls beautiful colors into your home with very little expensive.
Gain storage space when you hang an open slat shelf halfway up the kitchen window. Use the back slat as a rod for curtains that you have created from some dishtowels in fall designs and colors, folded to length, and attached with drapery clips. These inexpensive towels can easily be changed with the season. The shelf can be used for fall plants and foliage. What you need for this cheap kitchen makeover is the shelf, which I saw on ikea.com for $20.00, and a pair of dishtowels that you can buy anywhere that sells these items, such as Walmart, Kmart or Target for anywhere from $5.00 and on up. You may also be able to purchase the shelf at a home improvement store such as Lowes or Menards for even less then $20.00. For $50.00 or less, you have given your kitchen a new look for the fall season.
This inexpensive, no-sew, curtain idea can be carried into the bathroom also. Bathroom curtains can easily be made from bath towels or hand towels, for only the cost of the towels. Your options here are unlimited with the array of fall colors available for towels and bathroom rugs. The towels can be folded over the rod to create a valance if you desire. Iron it down with no-sew tape or glue for the valance, add some tassels or drapery clips for a more decorative look, and you created a window treatment for fall that can easily be changed for the seasons. Matching or coordinating bath rugs, a soap dish with some soap balls in fall colors and a new look in the master or guest bath has been created very inexpensively.
