I had an opportunity to visit one Indian restaurant serving Gujarati thali in the city of Houston recently on our way back from the city of Galveston after enjoying our vacation. This Gujarati restaurant, which is called ‘Bhojan’, is located at 6895 S. W. Freeway in the city of Houston in Texas State having phone number as 713 777 6900. Our entire family enjoyed lovely Gujarati lunch at this restaurant and I could not prevent myself to write a brief review on our said visit.
Our entire family is fond of authentic Gujarati food items. We have been trying number of Indian restaurants in the hope that at least some of them would certainly satisfy our craving for authentic Gujarati food. But, we could not succeed in our search until recently when we visited this unique Gujarati restaurant Bhojan in the city of Houston. The restaurant does not look very impressive from outside but as soon as we entered inside, the entire picture changed suddenly. The restaurant interiors have been decorated nicely in pure Indian style. It was a Sunday lunchtime when we visited this restaurant. The restaurant serves Gujarati thali buffet lunch for the full day from 12 pm to 9 pm in the night on all weekend days. This fantastic buffet starts with tasty appetizers like Pani Puri, Masala Chat with both sweet and chilly chutneys. The next main dishes were available in many varieties. There were four vegetables, all prepared in different tastes and combinations as per standard Gujarati style. The dry potatoes vegetable was the best of all. There were three options available in the category of Chapattis and these were Chapattis, Bajra’s Roti, and the most delicious sweet Roti, known as Puran Poli in India. There was mixed salad, having most of the vegetables mixed in right proportions. There were two farsan items of vegetable Cutlets and the famous Indian Patras. The options of tasty Gujarati dal and curry were also available. I found Gujarati Curry tastier in comparison with the dal. The masala Papads were also available. The tasty mango prickle was also there to add to the taste of the thali. There were three desert items available. These were Shrikhand, Gulab Jamuns, and the large pieces of the fresh watermelon. These deserts were made in exact Gujarati style and were really very delicious. All items were served in unlimited quantity. The chapattis, Bajra Rotis, and the Puran Polis were served hot at your table. All other items were served in buffet style and you your self will have to go and pick those.
The restaurant service was simply superb and the restaurant owner Mr. Thakorbhai Patel was serving hot Chapattis to each customer himself with loving attention and polite words. This type of polite service made all the food items more delicious and tasty. The restaurant remains open from 11 am to 3 pm for lunch and 6 pm to 9.30 pm for dinner on all weekdays. There is a special carryout menu also available, which consists of many Gujarati items. The rates of such special items are also very reasonable. Around 10 types of Indian sweets, farsans, and the vegetables are available in carryout menu. There was only one problem that some of the guests may encounter here at this restaurant and that is a very heavy rush of people sometimes, which can make taking food items from the buffet table slightly more difficult. Most of my readers would be perhaps surprised to know the rates of such a lavish Gujarati Thali lunch, which is $11.99 on weekend days and $8.99 during all weekdays. The extra India drinks like Lassi, Chhas etc are also available at extra rates of $1.99 per glass. There is also an ample free parking facility available near the hotel entrance.
I have been staying in USA since last fifteen years and this was the best Gujarati thali that I was able to taste here at this restaurant. That is why I strongly suggest all my Indian/Gujarati food lovers to visit this unique restaurant Bhojan at least once during their next visit to city of Houston in State of Texas.
