The holidays are upon us and if you’re looking for new ways to celebrate Christmas 2009 in Orange County, we give you 5 events that are sure to bring holiday cheer to the entire family.
101st Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. From December 16th to December 20th, this two and a half hour boat parade lights up the night. This event is free to the public, begins at 6:30 p.m. and features 250 decorated boats. Homes and businesses along the parade route join in the spirit with their own decorating competition.
The Glory of Christmas. Performed at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, this live Christmas pageant features special effects, live animals and flying angels while telling the story of the first Christmas. Come early and see the animals up close including camels, yaks, goats, llamas and a baby water buffalo. Ticket prices range from $35 to $45 with special pricing on selected nights. Winter Fantasy. Celebrating their 19th year, the Winter Fantasy takes place on the grounds of the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach. This event features approximately 170 exhibitors showcasing their arts and crafts. The festival takes place on the weekends from November 21 though December 13. What a wonderful place to find that unique gift you’ve been searching for that can’t be found in your typical shopping mall store. Art classes, entertainment, dining and even a visit with Santa can all be found at the Winter Fantasy. Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 12. Fashion Island Christmas Tree Lighting. The tree lighting ceremony takes place November 20th and 21st at 6 p.m. on the Atrium Lawn outside Atrium Court. The tree takes up residence in a new home this year since it’s normal courtyard location near Bloomingdales is under construction. This year’s annual event features a live Christmas tree measuring 40 feet tall (last year’s was 115 feet but smaller this year due to the new location) and decorated with 4,000 to 5,000 twinkling lights. A Christmas Carol. South Coast Repertory performs this classic Christmas tale every year and according to the SCR website the venue is celebrating the 30th year of Hal Landon, Jr. portraying Ebenezer Scrooge.
