1. Buy Used!
You know the great thing about Wii games? They’re fun and cheap! Used or new, Wii games are considerably less expensive than their 360-PS3 counterparts. To be economically friendly this year, make all your purchases used- whether on Ebay or at GameStop, you’ll be able to find plenty of good deals! For the price of one new PS3 game, you can get three high-quality Wii games!
2. Buy One of The Wii’s Great 2008 Games!
No one has time to play every game. This is to your benefit because chances are your children missed several great games from last year. 2008 was a monumental year for gaming and there are several amazing (and discounted) games for you to choose from!
Do your kids love RPGs? They’d love Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. This epic title is a follow-up to the GameCube’s greatest RPG, Tales of Symphonia. The game has an addictive 4-Player battle system, an intriguing story, and is a must-buy for fans of the original.

This frantic 4-Player fighting game has almost forty characters from every corner of Nintendo’s history, a beautifully crafted single player mode, a massive number of stages, and near infinite replay-ability- no two battles are alike! Let them recreate duels between Link and Ganondorf, have a face-off between Mario and Sonic, or pit 4 different Pokemon against each other- or hope online and play with friends!

4, Buy One of The Wii’s Great 2006 Games!
Really, really, really tightening your belt? The 2006 Wii line-up has you covered!
Perhaps a Co-op action RPG for your kids? Marvel Ultimate Alliance plays like a classic ‘beat ‘um up’ with RPG elements, fantastic 4-Player multiplayer, and a huge roster of playable Marvel heroes. It had a sequel release in Sept ’09, though it isn’t really worth the extra cash for a budget-friendly holiday home.

In the market for an anime tag-team fighting game? Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is your choice! Select a team of 5 energy-blasting heroes (or villains!) and go to war against your opponent’s team. Use the Wiimote’s pointer to activate over-the-top special moves and destroy the planet while you’re at it! The ’07 sequel proved to be ten times better (more characters, stages, online play, and more)- if you’re willing, I’d recommend springing the extra cash for it. If not, this one’s great too!

Want your kids to have the greatest adventure game ever? The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess would like to have a word with you. 5. Wii Shop Channel!
One of Nintendo’s updates for the Wii included a gift-giving system for the Wii Shop Channel. Now you can purchase classic games for your friends at amazingly low prices!
The NES, Super Nintendo, Arcade, Sega Genesis, N64, Neo Geo, and more are all on the table for as low as $5 to $15 dollars! Many would be very expensive to buy for their original consoles- not to mention difficult to find.
If classic games aren’t really your kids’ thing, go for the all-new Wiiware games! Nintendo and other developers produce original downloadable Wii games for your enjoyment at the same price-point!
Some of the best games available on the Wii Shop Channel are- Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Brothers 1, 2, & 3, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Kirby 64, Super Metroid, World of Goo, Defend Your Castle, Dynamite Heady, Megaman 9, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King, Star Fox 64, Bomberman Blast, Sonic 1, 2, &3, and numerous other classics.
6. Go For An Accessory!
Game creators make accessories for two reasons. To enhance their games in otherwise impossible ways and to give consumers an inexpensive alternative to a real game. The second fact is what you’ll be interested in. Rather than dropping $50 on a brand new Wii game, why not pay half that price by getting your children a Wii accessory? In some cases they come with games!
If they love playing Virtual Console games or are having trouble getting used to motion controls, pick up a classic controller! These first-party controllers are comfortable and compatible with every VC game.
For racing game lovers, the Wii Wheel is a great choice! Bundled with Mario Kart Wii and ExciteBots: Trick Racing, it takes steering to an all-new level!
