Christmas Decorating Checklist for 2009

by sawpan

The holidays are just around the corner and for many people the Christmas decorating process could become a part-time job.

It is important during the busy holiday season to stay very organized with the Christmas decorating. An organized and efficient way to do this is by writing Christmas decorating related items and issues down on a piece of paper as a type of Christmas decorating checklist, it is a great way to have a permanent records of your thoughts.

Here you will find 5 Christmas decorating tips that will keep you structured, orderly while also maintaining the holiday spirit.

Christmas Decorating Tip #1: Organize Christmas Ornaments

A couple weeks before I put up the Christmas tree, I will go through my boxed ornaments un-wrapping each one and look for any broken or damaged ornaments. I also make sure that each Christmas ornament has a hook so that it is ready to be hung quickly. I typically lay out my ornaments on the dining room table choosing which ones to hang, I have so many that I am not able to display all the ornaments each year.

Christmas Decorating Tip #2: Inspect Indoor and Outdoor Christmas Lights

The strands of Christmas lights are always a concern for me as I worry about loose or bad wiring and a possible fire starting. I always pull out my strands of Christmas decorating lights, sit on the floor in my family room and pull the strand through my hand making sure that I check the full length of lighting for any defectives or problems.

Christmas Decorating Tip #3: Inspect Fireplace and Possibly Have Cleaned

This Christmas decorating tip may sound a little odd but fire hazards are a big concern all the time but especially at the holidays. I typically hang Christmas stockings on my fire place mantel and lights around the edge of the fireplace so at the holidays we have added potential for fire issues. We always check the fireplace, but do it more thoroughly at the holidays right before I am ready to display my Christmas decorations. We have had our fireplace cleaned about every other year although I believe the most optimum would be to have it cleaned yearly, we just try to keep our fireplace as clean as possible.

Christmas Decorating Tip #4: Collect Natural Items

During the year I collect natural items from the outdoors that I think would possibly make a good craft or Christmas decoration at the holiday season. One of my favorite and easiest Christmas decoration to make is the pinecone wreath. By simply gluing pinecones on a Styrofoam wreath and adding ribbon and/or dried berries, a wonderful Christmas decorating idea becomes a beautiful and natural reality.

Christmas Decorating Tip #5: Tinsel to Add Sparkle and Shine

Tinsel is a super fast way to hang or display holiday color for a festive look. Tinsel can be tossed on tables as a centerpiece, hung on picture frames, thrown on bushes and trees, any where you can think of to place tinsel is a great way to decorate without the added time or money expense.

Christmas decorating can be simple, easy and economical while still looking fabulous. The Christmas season is suppose to be a joyous time of year, do not let Christmas decorating be a chore or a hassle but instead by being organized and simple, Christmas decorating can be one of the first items checked off your Christmas list!
