The Christmas season is upon us and if you want to give away some of the Christmas joy now’s the time to start doing it. There are many ways to spread the Christmas spirit but if you need some ideas here are some places that will help you. These are national organizations; you’re sure to find one near you.
Barnes & Noble is one of my “offices.” I love books and I enjoy coffee. Barnes & Noble gives you the opportunity to purchase a book for a certain age child, boy or girl, and then you merely give it to the cashier and the store will get the gift to the right child. It couldn’t get much easier.
Look for the green bookmarks labeled with a child’s age and gender. They’re hanging in the coffee shop and other areas around the store. Check the website for the B&N nearest you.
Toys for Tots Foundation has been sponsored by the US Marine Corp since 1947. Walt Disney designed the logo and celebrities in every decade have promoted the toy drive. According to the foundation, eight million toys are distributed annually. Check the website for the nearest drop-off site near you.
Operation Christmas Child is an outreach of Samaritan’s Purse. What you do is get a shoe box and fill it with suggested gift items for children. Then you drop off the shoe box (es) along with a donation of $7.00 at the nearest drop site and Samaritan’s Purse delivers the boxes to needy children throughout the United States and around the world.
It’s a great way to get your own children involved in giving this Christmas. Hurry, collection ends on November 23. Check the website for help in packing the shoebox, making online donations, and the nearest drop site near you.
Angel Giving Tree is a joint effort of JC Penny and the Salvation Army. It’s a convenient online way that you can share Christmas with a needy child or senior citizen. Just go to the website and pick out your “angel.” You’ll receive an email with a list of needs and wishes for your angel. You may then purchases the items and then ship them to the Salvation Army for distribution.
See the website for complete details. It’s a great way to be involved and to get your children involved with the Spirit of Christmas.
There are other worthy charities in your town and across the nation. Check online or in your local newspaper if you want to find others.
