Nothing will keep you on the edge of your seat more than a James Patterson thriller. But if you are ready for a good mystery that is not so graphic and not so violent, you may be ready for a cozy mystery.
What is a cozy mystery?
Cozy mysteries are fun to read, and they come in many different categories. You can pick a series that fits your interests or read them all.
What is different about a cozy mystery?
Rather than a serial killer or psychopath, the killer is usually a bad person who knows the victim or has some connection with the victim. There is one series where our sleuth is not a woman and not an amateur, but most of our sleuths are women and amateurs. They usually live in a small town with no training or experience in the detective field or police work. Like Jessica Fletcher from “Murder She Wrote”, murder seems to follow these women around, and their unique job skills help them solve the murder every time.
Often we find our leading lady knows, is dating or is married to a member of the police force. The heroines are likable people with a group of devoted friends or relatives that appear in every book and help solve each and every mystery. In a cozy mystery, you don’t usually know anything about the death of the victim until someone happens on the body. This way you avoid all the gory, blood-and-guts details that are usually found in other thrillers.
Sometimes, our leading lady has a husband or a boyfriend, but her sex life is not revealed in great detail as in many other books.
Why should I read cozy mysteries?
The cozy mysteries still have exciting plots and characters with charm and personality. After reading a few mysteries in a series, the characters are like old friends, and you are anxious to see them solve the murder and be safe again. Some of the books have bonuses because they give you recipes, decorating advice, information or patterns
What kind of cozy mysteries are there?
Cozy mysteries are often series with many different themes. There are series about cooking, baking, and candy making. Just to name a few, there is the Chocoholic Mysteries, Goldy Bear Catering, and the Cooking Class Mystery series. If you like working with your hands, you would probably enjoy some of the series like the Crochet Mystery series, Needlecraft Mystery series and the Knitting Mystery series. Some cozy mysteries also have religious themes like the Church Choir Mystery Book series and the Mystery and the Minister’s Wife series. The list is too long for me to tell you about all of them, but cozy mysteries cover just about everything from golfing to NASCAR
If you like to read and want to meet some warm, friendly characters you’ll want to visit with over and over, then you need to check out a cozy mystery book. There are a lot of them to choose from, so you better get started right away.
