Elaborate cat Halloween costumes don’t stay on for long. Why waste money when you can fashion homemade Halloween costumes for kitty out of items from the craft store? Bandannas, seasonal hair ties and other items make great cat Halloween costumes that won’t annoy your kitty. Using inexpensive items from a craft store means less disappointment if fluffy tears it up too.
During Mardi Gras you’ll often find bright colored Halloween hair ties in purple and green with dangling bells at the craft store. These are perfect to slip over kitty as a collar. Cats are used to collars and don’t really give them a second thought. If your kitty doesn’t mind, add a bandanna cape or a purple or green cat body suit to the homemade cat Halloween costume.
Cats are already treated like royalty due to their finicky personalities. Why not make it official with a royal costume? Glue fake craft store jewels to an old cat collar. Use a piece of fake fur to make a royal coat. Cut the fur into a triangle. Tuck the point of the triangle into and under the back of the jeweled collar.
Blue jean baby
Purchase a cat blue jean jacket from a pet store. If you can’t find one there, an infant jacket will work. Sew hippie look craft store patches onto the Halloween costume jacket and slip onto the cat. Cut or fold a paisley design craft store bandanna into a triangle. The bandanna can be in any color. Pink is cute for girl cats. Tie the bandanna in a loose knot around the neck of your cat.
Purchase an orange cat shirt from a pet store. An orange infant t-shirt will work too. You will also need a green infant craft store t- shirt to make a leaf collar from. Put the orange t-shirt on the cat. To make the leaf collar simply draw leaf outlines outward from the neck of the t-shirt and cut them out. Slip the collar over the head of the cat. Your homemade pumpkin Halloween costume is complete.
Your cat may not be an angel but you can pretend on Halloween. Purchase a white hooded kitty t-shirt from the pet store. Check your local craft store for small wings in the doll making area and a white feather boa in the wearable art t-shirt area. Stitch the wings to the back of the t-shirt. Sew the feather boa around the hood of the t-shirt as a halo.
Please Note: When making homemade Halloween costumes for cats, always think of their safety first. Use non-toxic glues. Avoid using items that can be a choking or strangling hazard. Take the costume off if your cat is uncomfortable or unhappy. Never put shoes or boots on your cat for Halloween or any other time. Foot covering interferes with balance in animals.
