Dancing with the Stars results are in, and two dancers went home on the first Dancing with the Stars elimination of the season. The results were about what was expected, with two of the lowest scoring couples getting eliminated. The double eliminations on Dancing with the Stars are often done when the cast is too large, and with 16 contestants starting out on this seasons show, it was explained early on that two of them wouldn’t make the cut after the first week. When it came to both the judges of the show and the fans at home, they made the right decision on who was going to get sent home. If I was picking one man and one woman, these are the exact contestants that I would have sent home during the first week.
The two people that were eliminated during the first Dancing with the Stars results show ere Ashley Hamilton and Macy Gray. Ashley Hamilton is the son of George Hamilton, and had a rough first day on the show back on Monday. Combining his scores from the couples dance and the relay dance, he ended the night with only 19 points out of a possible 40. That’s not a very good score, and when it was combined with the fan voting, it left him as the lowest man on the totem poll. It never seemed to me like he was having any fun on the show, and while he may keep his emotions to himself, this is a dancing competition where fans want to see your emotions if you want to gain their support and their votes.
From the ladies side, it was Macy Gray who was sent home with the lowest score of the other eight couples. She also posted only 19 out of 40 points when it was her turn to dance, and I think that her behavior on the show may have cost her the support of some fans who wanted her to win the show originally. It also seemed like she wasn’t as interested in the show as she needed to be, and when a dancer isn’t interested in what they are doing, the audience definitely isn’t going to get on board with supporting them. It’s not very typical that the two worst dancers go home in the first elimination, but with so many dancers this season, it has become apparent that it could work exactly that way for the first couple of weeks. We will stay tuned for surprises later on in the season.
The best part of the night was when some of the professional dancers performed dances to honor Patrick Swayze. They took their queues from Ghost and Dirty Dancing, and ended the performance with the closing number from Dirty Dancing. The only down side was that they didn’t do the full dances, but rather used bits and pieces to put together a montage. The low point of the opening first results show had to be the debut of the new Miley Cyrus video Party in the USA; the video just didn’t work, and wasn’t all that interesting. Now the dancers all get to prepare for the next week of performances which begin on Monday.
