It is often sad that truth is stranger than fiction. Tragically, though, truth is often more horrific than fiction. And what has happened to 23-year-old Darlene Haynes is a prime example. According to the Telegram, Darlene Haynes was found dead in the closet of her Worcester, Massachusetts apartment Monday. Darlene Haynes was eight months pregnant, and, though it is scarcely possible to believe, her fetus had been cut from her womb – and was not found at the scene.
The police, who are calling the death of Darlene Haynes a homicide, are searching for the fetus. They say that medical professionals have informed them that Darlene Haynes’ fetus could survive but not unless it receives immediate medical attention.
Thus far, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Darlene Haynes. Police, however, confirm that they have interviewed Darlene Haynes’ boyfriend Roberto Rodriguez. According to the Telegram, Darlene Haynes had an active restraining order against Rodriguez which stemmed from an alleged assault that took place in June.
Darlene Haynes’ two-year-old daughter, whose father is the aforementioned Roberto Rodriguez, is in the custody of relatives, according to the police.
Darlene Haynes is not the only woman who has had her unborn child ripped from the womb.
Heather Snively suffered the same unspeakable fate. She met her accused murderer, Korena Elaine Roberts, through a classified ad on Craigslist; reportedly, she was looking for baby clothes and believed that Roberts was pregnant as well. Ostensibly, the two met to trade baby clothes – but, sadly, something infinitely more sinister happened.
Allegedly, Korena Elaine Roberts murdered Heather Snively, ripped her eight-month-old fetus from her womb, and claimed that the baby was her own. The baby did not survive.
Roberts has been charged with the murder of Heather Snively and may be held responsible for the baby’s death as well if it can be determined that he was ever alive after being ripped from his mother’s womb.
On July 18, 2008 Kia Johnson, 18, was found dead in the apartment of Andrea Curry-Demus. Her womb had been cut open. A few days later, Curry-Demus was arrested and charged with criminal homicide, kidnapping and unlawful restraint. Like Korena Elaine Roberts, Curry-Demus claimed that Kia Johnson’s baby was her own. In this case, though, the baby survived and is reportedly in good condition.
