David Hedrick is a veteran. David Hedrick is angry. David Hedrick along with many veterans such as me heard Rep. Brian Baird (D-Wash) referring to demonstrators as “brown shirts” which is a reference to Nazis. David Hedrick didn’t like it as I didn’t like it and, he said something. Now all the liberals are saying that Baird isn’t so bad or Pelosi isn’t so bad because after all here is a conservative who made references to Nazism with respect to the topic of health care reform.
David Weigel wrote an article on The Washington Independent titled “Vet to Congressman: Pelosi Should Find the Swastika on “the Sleeve of Her Own Arm.”
The article essentially tells us that Hedrick is doing what the Democrats have been accused of doing by conservatives so their actions are all right.
I did an article earlier today about Bernard Madoff where the reference information told us that he may be dying of cancer. I queried the reader if they thought we should release him like the Libyan was released who killed the 270 people in the Lockerbie Bombing because he was dying of prostate cancer.
What is my point?
There is valuable argument and there is worthless arguing. Bantering back and forth about who the Nazis are is stupid and gives no one an edge or more importantly does it help move to a solution.
However, I will say this:
I am the oldest of three kids. As kids tend to do, we would get into fights. While my little brother and sister would be allowed to spout off all they wanted, if I engaged in childish behavior, I got in trouble.
I expect more from the government. These are supposed to be professionals who have been elected to public office. They are supposed to be able to carry out the business of the country with a cool reservation. It is disconcerting when a House leader can lose control as much as Pelosi has.
And, even worse, rather than admit that maybe they haven’t been acting as mature as they should or could have, they point to citizens who are not elected officials and say that they are their standard for behavior. In other words, “Why is it so bad if I did it if a “conservative veteran” does it?”
When a government starts measuring its own standards of behavior to those of the citizenry, the country is in big trouble.
