Stamps are a great way to personalize all kinds of projects, from paper cards to collages and scrapbooks. The most popular stamps are usually those that depict images, such as flowers or hearts, or single words such as “love” or “family.” Few crafters and Scrapbookers know the power of a text stamp in personalizing projects. Using a text stamp (also known as a word stamp) can add interest and style to a project. Word stamps make the perfect craft embellishment for someone who avoids rhinestones and silk flowers.
There are several types of text stamps and even more ways to use them. Try some of these ideas as you work on future projects. You’ll be surprised how much sentiment they can add to your project!
Single-saying Word Stamps
I like to use these text stamps for making cards. I have single-saying word stamps for every occasion, including birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, get well cards and thank-you cards. These word stamps usually feature a simple saying that can deliver the perfect message for the occasion in mind. I also use single-saying word stamps for scrapbooking projects. I have a stamp that says “Dance like nobody is watching,” that I’ve used for countless scrapbook projects.
A text stamp can also be a great focal point for your card or scrapbook layout. They often stand out, especially if the text created by the text stamp is in a large block style or has a unique texture. If the word stamp is not meant to be the vocal point, it can be used to draw attention to a picture.
Backgrounds and Borders
A word stamp can be used to create a lovely background for a card, stationary paper or a scrapbooking spread. Use a light colored text stamp so that you can put pictures or other text over the word stamp. Text stamps can also be used in the background as a means of adding texture to the page, or filling empty space.
Word stamps make great borders as well. If you have tired of using ribbons and brads for your scrapbooking border, consider the possibility of using a text stamp to frame the scrapbooking spread. A word stamp border is unique and will add extra meaning to your page.
Creating stamp collages is a lot of fun, and using word stamps in these collages makes them much more meaningful. A text stamp may add insight or humor to a stamp collage. I like to use multiple word stamps in various locations of the collage and layer the text stamps with image stamps. The unique stamp collage can be used in card making, scrapbooking and other types of decorating.

-Vary the fonts of your word stamps. Cursive fonts are great for adding a vintage feel while large block fonts work well for more masculine projects (I use bold print when making father’s day cards and happy birthday cards for my male friends).
-After stamping with a single-saying word stamp, use a marker or colored pencil to outline or highlight the text. When I use block print word stamps, I like to create shadows of the letters
