I have been thinking of writing this article since a friend of mine and me were discussing this issue at work the other day. This movie because part of the basis for the conversation. My friend, who is a black woman, and I were discussing the lack of black women that are in the limelight. Now we know there are Oprah and Tyra Banks, but there is not an amount of top name black female, actresses, models, and so forth based on the percentage of the population.
I watched the movie and it was very good. I would advise anyone who like a good story or Disney to watch it. I will not summarize it here since the purpose of the review is more why Disney probably saw the need to have a black princess and if the message is received. Obviously if you have been a Disney fan for some time you will notice that there was never a black princess. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Bell, Cinderella and so forth have all been white. There are many people that would see this as racist that Disney never diversified. There is something that really needs to be examined in this other than racism and that is preference of what beauty is and what sells.
Any business wants to make money and to do this you need to offer something people want to buy or see. Many people are not interested in seeing black women except other black women. Now before everyone criticizes me over this look around at some things you can see everyday. Look at interracial dating. You rarely see white men with black women. There are huge amounts of black men who see having a white woman as a status symbol. If both black men and white women find beauty in white women then you will see white woman in positions like models, actresses and cartoon characters. There are very psychological issues in play here that I will not even begin to explain, but I think the average reader knows many white women who think it’s a political statement to date a black man and many black men who think it is a status symbol to get a white girl. This may be isolated but I have actually heard black man who says they like to date white women because it ticks white men off going back to the slave master issue that still plagues confrontations between the races to this day.
I know many interracial couples. Some are happy and some are not. I also know many white women who regret getting involved with black men because sometimes that can get the person a reputation. Is that right? No it is not, but it does happen. It happened lots of times when I was in college. Now the white men who date black women I know seem to be more based on love than a status symbol or some misguided political statement. Love is what is important anyway.
The moral of the story here and what the point of my review is this. If black men are obsessed with white women as much as white men are, then white women is what people want and what entertainment and the media show. This could even be the case with these missing person cases like all the attention Natalie Holloway got yet many missing black women don’t get a second mention. Like I said most models, actresses and so forth are white. As I understand it most of the black pornographic performers are men. Many of the movies featuring black women do not sell from what I understand. If your own people don’t want to see you then others may not as well.
I am white. I am very proud of that. I have only dated white women with one exception in my entire life. I will say that I see plenty of black women that are beautiful. I don’t mean black women who make themselves almost look white. I mean women like queen Latifah and Whoppi Goldberg and Michelle Obama. Now with hott sisters like that out there why is it every other black man seems to think you have to have a white girl?
I recall Chris Rock once made a joke during his routine about this very subject. He was talking about how some black athlete just won this award. I forget the name, but I will use mike for my example. He said the reporters were saying to him “Mike you won this award and that award and your third championship. What is next for you? The athlete looks at him and says “you know what is next for me. WHITE GIRL!”. Chris Rock then went on to say that you have to have a white girl to be a successful black man in America. You can’t be successful unless you have a white girl. If you buy a mansion they ask “where is the white girl. We have zoning restrictions”. Now this sounded funny and rang true at the time, but what is wrong with being proud of who you are?
Many of these same men are supposed to be very black and proud yet think they are too good to be with a black woman. The RA when I was in college had pictures of white women all over his room. I asked him one time if he had a racial identity crisis. A friend of mine, who was a black male, told me he said black women are nasty and stuff. I am like what the hell. That was some of the worst self hate I ever heard. If I were black I would have no need for white women except as friends as I see plenty of hott black women. I also like a little meat and many white women seem to like the ultra thin look.
For examples you don’t need to look far. Look at many athletes. Kobe Bryant married a Latino Women, but you notice that when that girl tried to make some bucks off him he did not turn it down. I don’t know many black men that would turn down cheap, easy, and free white booty. Tiger woods is half white, but notice that all he married a white woman and all his mistresses were white. I have never heard of Derek Jeter who is also half white dating anything but white women. This also hold true with other athletes like Reggie Bush and that guy who is married to Kim Kardashian’s sister. Like I said I realize that easy, cheap and free white tail is hard to turn down, but have some pride in yourselves people. There are lots of single black women I know that want to find a good black man to marry and settle down with but, “It is pretty hard when I am the wrong color for my own people”. When you love someone you love them, but people need to quit dating based on misguided ideas of status symbols and political statements.
As long as America views the white woman as the most desired object by men there will continue to be this disparity in all aspects of entertainment and things of that nature. Some pride in your heritage would be nice on both sides though. I fail to see how someone can oneself a proud black man but jump over very attractive black women like a kangaroo for an unattractive white women. I have seen this countless times. Queen Latifah is way hotter than any of the white women that I mentioned in the examples.
As a little disclaimer. I am very conservative yet have friends of every race. I believe in people being people and that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. This article is one of many articles that I will write purely to promote people to think and get the gears turning. People can think what they want, but I know what is in my heart. The father also knows what is in my heart and he will be my final judge. And yes I do know Jesus was not white as many claim he was.
