If you have a child with autism or another disorder or disability, healing is a subject you think about often. Let us not forget that when we hire therapists, do special diets and give our children supplements, what we are really asking for is healing. Healing is mysterious and within the realm of the divine. How do children heal? Why do some get better than others? What factors are responsible for healing or failure to heal for that matter? These are questions for which the answers are elusive and coveted.
I remember the dark, dark days of my son’s autism. I mean the really, really dark days. The day when, for instance, he was thrown out of speech therapy for biting the therapist. That was the time when I felt the most hopeless of all. I mean, if speech therapy is where they are supposed to help them and he was thrown out, what could that mean? Where could we go from there?
What I did during that time of despair was I got in touch with 12 prayer lines that will pray for your child with autism. I really wanted people to pray for my child and I didn’t care what religion or faith they were from. I was really desperate. I began to regularly (and by regularly I mean every day) call these 12 prayer lines that will pray for your child with autism and request healing prayers to be said for my child. In total I would call Catholic, Christian, Jewish and Non-Denominational.
The first time I called a prayer line to request healing for Daniel I was so embarassed. The prayer partner just asked me why we were praying and I said he had autism and I wanted him to be better. She was a stranger on the phone and I felt kind of ridiculous and desperate but she did say a nice prayer for him right away. When I hung up the phone I felt so much relief that I just cried. In the following days I began to feel an unusual strength that I cannot describe. I think it really helped us. It is a powerful thing to know that people of faith all over the world are praying for your child.
It occured to me today that there may be other parents out there who are today feeling as I felt then- extreme feelings of despair. Today I remembered the healing prayer lines I called all those years ago. Although I regard both personal prayer and my son’s condition as extremely private, I have nonetheless ripped this page out of my journal in order to provide it to you. Some of these prayer lines are answered by a live person and others are recorded messages of inspiration. Following are the 12 prayer lines that will pray for your child with autism. They are the very ones that prayed with me for my son during the lowest hours of my life.
