Are you throwing a party for a group of small children around Christmas? Maybe a classroom party, playgroup party or Sunday school Christmas party? Do you need ideas on crafts that the little ones can do?
I love going to www.orientaltrading.com/holidays for crafts for the holidays that are inexpensive and that I can buy enough of for an entire group without spending a lot.
Oriental trading company has a beaded candy cane craft that is simple to make using pipe cleaners and red and white beads. All materials are included and the kit makes 12 candy canes for under $5. You can also look at your local hobby store for the items in this project if you wanted to.
One super cute craft ornament I found on the Oriental Trading Company’s website is a little baking man ginger bread cookie craft. To see it and order go to http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse/processRequest.do?demandPrefix=12&sku=48/3434&prodCatId=388781&mode=Browsing&erec=14&sp=true&Ntk=all&Ntx=mode%2bmatchallpartial&N=388781+1240&tabId=5&requestURI=processProductsCatalog&sd=Gingerbread+Man+Rolling+Pin+Ornament+Craft+Kit .
They also have a color your own Christmas card that you also put your child’s handprints on in the inside of the card! You can get 12 of these cards for about $5 by going to this link http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse/processRequest.do?demandPrefix=12&sku=48/5963&prodCatId=388781&mode=Browsing&erec=60&No=0&sp=true&Ntk=all&Ntx=mode%2bmatchallpartial&N=388781+1240&tabId=5&requestURI=processProductsCatalog&sd=Color-Your-Own+Handprint+Christmas+Card+Craft+Kit .
Other easy crafts that you can put together yourself for your group would be a paper plate snowman. All you need would be 2 different sized paper plates, pipe cleaners, buttons and construction paper and glue. Pre-cut out long triangles out of orange construction paper for the nose, large black squares and long black rectangles to create the hat, and round shapes out of the black construction paper for eyes. Next set out all the pieces on a table for the kids to make their own snowmen. To construction the snowman just glue the smaller plate on the top of the larger plate. Glue pipe cleaners to the sides of the large paper plate for the arms. Glue on the eyes, nose, buttons and hat. Now the children can either use more black construction circles to create a mouth or draw their own.
You can also make Styrofoam Polar bears. You will need Styrofoam cups, medium sized Styrofoam balls, white construction paper and google eyes. Glue the Styrofoam ball to the bottom side of the Styrofoam cup. Cut oval shapes out from the white construction paper and glue two to the sides of the cup for arms and two to the lip of the cup for the feet. Glue the google eyes on to the sides of the ball and draw a mouth on the ball.
Another great idea is to read the kids all the story of The Animals of the Mitten and then do a craft about that book. The craft is simple. You will just need to have pre printed out each animal in the story and you can either make your own mitten out of paper by tracing your hand (or the children’s hands) or you can print out a mitten shape as well. Be sure you make two mittens so you can put them together to make a pocket to put all the animals in just like they go in, in the story. To put the two mittens together you can either glue the edges, staple the edges or punch holes along the edge and have the children practice lacing the edges together (just make sure you leave the wrist part open).
