No one needs to live with the fear that his or her name will be erased from the Book of Life today or sometime in the future. Once you are saved, you can never be lost again (John 10:28-29). There is a reason that Jesus said in John 10:28-29 that no one can snatch us out of His hand or out of the hand of God. God has a book and in fact many books (Rev. 20:12). One is the Book of Life and it has your name in it if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. It’s vital that your name be in that book. If you are saved, it’s already in the book…to stay:
But what about the other books (Rev. 20:12)? Those who fear Almighty God Jehovah, calling on His name and serving Him, will be found written in the book of remembrance (Malachi 3:16-18) which is another name for the Book of Life. On the other hand a person whose name is not in the book of life will serve the beast (Rev. 13:4-9) and will not be saved or enter heaven. Notice that many books are opened, not just one book. One of these books is the Book of Life. The dead are judged according to their works. They seem to have their names in books too, but their names may have been blotted out of the Book of Life. Why? Because those not found written in the Book of Life, are to be thrown into the lake of fire (Rev. 20:11-15). This infers that there were other books too, as in Revelation 20:12 says, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books (plural) were opened, and another book was opened (different book here), which is the Book of Life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books (plural, meaning from the other books , apparently), according to their works. “
But can names in the Book of Life be blotted out? It may be that all names were written in the Book of Life at one time and later blotted out due to rejecting Jesus Christ. This makes sense knowing that Moses and David knew of the existence of Jehovah’s book of life. These two realized a person’s name could be removed (blotted out) from it (Exodus 32:31-33, Psalms 69:27-28). And perhaps those who rejected God and Jesus were put into the other books and judged out of them (Rev. 20:12) and then their names were blotted out of the Book of Life. Any names that were blotted out were the names of those who would not accept Jesus Christ as Lord to begin with. Remember that God has perfect foreknowledge of everyone of us. The names blotted are not the names of saints (Dan. 7:10) but of sinners; those who would reject, in the future, God’s free gift of grace to receive (Rev. 13:8) through Jesus supreme sacrifice. They must have then been placed into the “other books” mentioned in Revelation 20:12. This makes perfect sense since there were many books to begin with, b that people are going to be judged by. The reassuring thing is that if your name’s in the Book of Life, and you have accepted Jesus Christ, it won’t be blotted out.
The meaning of predestination means that we were adopted as children of God, chosen before the earth even existed, and like a couple who plans to have children, they fully intend not to leave their children as orphans or give up on them (Eph 1:4-5).
Then who are these who are “not found written in the Book of Life” and “cast into the lake of fire”? It is all who dwell on the earth and that have ever lived (Rev. 20:12) that never accepted Jesus. All the saints in the Book of Life will not have their name blotted out though. I have often wondered if this was the reason the Ark was so much bigger and provisions were so greater than they actually needed for the number of animals and Noah’s family. Did He leave room enough on it to accommodate any who decided to repent before the Great Flood. We know that God doesn’t want anyone to perish.
If God could write you a reassuring letter, He would. He has written humans a love letter. It is the Bible. If He could send a personal letter to each of His children, including you, it might read like this:
I want you to know just how safe and secure you are in My Presence. That is a fact, totally independent of your feelings. If you have been saved, you are on your way to heaven; nothing can prevent you from reaching that destination; not breadth, not heights, not death. There you will see Me face-to-face, and your joy will be off the charts by any earthly standards. Even now, you are never separated from Me, though for a while, you must see Me through the eyes of faith. I will walk with you till the end of time and onward into eternity.
Although My Presence is a guaranteed promise, that does not necessarily change your feelings. When you forget that I am with you, you may experience loneliness or fear. It is through awareness of My Presence that peace displaces negative feelings, or isolation or fear of doubts. Practice the discipline of walking consciously with Me through each and every day. Your salvation is not affected by your feelings or doubts or beliefs. Your feelings and doubts can not change My will to save you…it is certain, for I Am God Almighty and I will not lose even one of you whom I have chosen (John 6:37, 39, 10:28-29).
Your Loving Father
Additional scriptures also speak of a secure, eternal salvation…an eternal, permanent security that you can read for yourself: Gen. 21:12; Ex. 9:16; 33:19; Deut. 10:15; 32:8; Josh. 11:20; 1 Sam. 12:22; 2 Chr. 6:6; Ps. 33:12; 65:4; 78:68; 135:4; Isa. 41:1-10; Jer. 1:5; Mark 13:20; Luke 22:22; John 6:37; 15:16; 17:2, 6, 9; Acts 2:28; 3:18; 4:28; 13:48; 17:26; Rom. 9:11, 18, 21; 11:5; Eph. 3:11; 1 Thes. 1:4; 2 Thes. 2:13; 2 Tim. 1:9; Titus 1:2; 1 Pet. 1:2.
Here is how to receive eternal security right now that is forever:
I Admit – that I am a sinner and in need of a Savior (Rom 6:23)
I Abandon – self-effort and realize I can not be saved by my works or efforts (Acts 16:31)
I Accept freely Christ’s payment for my sins, required of the Father. (John 3:16)
I Acknowledge Jesus Christ as my personal lord and Savior (Acts 4:12)
If you have just received Jesus, you have now received God’s inheritance rights since you are now a son or daughter of His and can never be lost again & live forever (John 10:28-29). The good news is, your name will not be erased from the Book of Life if you are born again, from above. The fact is that even before you breathed your first breath, God knew how you would respond to His offer of grace. According to His all-knowing foreknowledge of the future, He wrote your name in the book of life…not to erase it, but for it to remain there forever. And there it shall remain (John 10:28-29). Don’t believe me…or your own feelings. Believe what God has said! So you see, it is not all your responsibility…it is your response to His ability. For the saved Christian, holiness was not the way to Jesus, Jesus was the way to holiness.
