Dan Brown is doing something right. He breaks first day sales records, has movies based on his books, and has bookstores promoting his release dates 7 months in advance. The addictive elixir lies in his constant use of the same essential phrases, which he judiciously uses in his newest book, “The Lost Symbol.” Normally, you would have to pay thirty big ones to be inundated with these gems, but philanthropy demands that they be compiled in one list for all to enjoy.
“The Lost Symbol” quotes and memorable moments.
Pg. 99 “Langdon gasped, recalling the eerie whisper of Peter’s captor: It really hasn’t dawned on you yet, has it? Why you were chosen?
Now, in one terrifying moment, Langdon’s thoughts snapped into focus and the fog lifted.
All at once, Langdon’s purpose here was crystal clear.”
Pg. 101 “The revelation crashed over Langdon like a wave”
Pg. 214 “Then, like an oncoming truck, it hit her.”
Pg. 254 “Langdon instantly saw all the pieces fall into place. Within seconds, he was certain he knew exactly how to decipher the pyramid.”
Pg. 277 “Abruptly, Katherine jolted upright in her seat, as if she had made a sudden realization.”
Pg. 279 “An instant later, Langdon saw it”
Later on pg. 279… “My God, you’re right!” Langdon blurted. “I didn’t see it earlier!”
Pg. 311 “For several moments, Bellamy stared at the screen, trying to make sense of what he was looking at. Gradually, as it began to dawn on him, he felt the blood draining from his face. He started in horror, unable to look away. “But this is… impossible!” he exclaimed. “How… could this be?”
Sato’s face was grim. “You tell me, Mr. Bellamy. You tell me”
As the Architect of the Capitol began to fully comprehend the ramifications of what he was seeing, he could feel his entire world teetering precariously on the brink of disaster.”
Pg. 318 “What happened next, Langdon never saw coming.”
Pg. 322 “For a moment, Langdon was back in Westminster Abbey, standing at Newton’s pyramidical tomb, where he had experienced a similar epiphany”
Pg. 326 “The answer had been right in front of them all night.”
Pg. 355 “In a flash, Langdon understood the meaning of Galloway’s last request.”
Pg. 363 “The truth now dawned on him”
Pg. 379 “In a flash he understood.
The message on the capstone was suddenly crystal clear. Its meaning has been staring him in the face all night.”
…”The capstone’s meaning was camouflaged in so simple a manner that Langdon could scarcely believe he and Katherine had not spotted it.”
Pg. 388 “In a flash, Mal’akh knew Langdon was right.”
Pg. 421 “Now, suddenly, he saw it. He opened his eyes, breathing heavily”
… “Suddenly he realized what the word might be.”
Pg. 442 “When he had first laid eyes on the grid, the shock of the moment had blinded him… preventing his vision from piercing the veil of chaos… to glimpse the startling truth. Now, however, the real significance of these symbols had become crystal clear. He had seen the grid in an entirely new light.”
… “In an instant, a bright ray of light pierced the murkiness of the history and myth surrounding the Lost Word.”
Pg. 448 “In the abrupt stillness, Peter Solomon seemed to have been jolted from his trance. His face clouded now with a visage of total incredulity.”
Pg. 482 “Then he saw it.
The wave of shock and disorientation that tore through Langdon’s body reached down inside and spun his internal compass upside down. He nearly fell backward as his mind strained to accept the utterly unanticipated sight that was before him. In his wildest dreams, Robert Langdon would never have guessed what lay on the other side of this glass.”
It’s just too bad that following the body-ripping, wildest dreams discovery of being in a tourist spot, there lies one last paltry discovery.
Pg. 504 “Elohim,” Langdon said suddenly, his eyes flying open again as he made an unexpected connection.
Just let the man sleep!
If this hasn’t filled your desperate desire for eureka moments, Dan Brown’s previous books “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels and Demons” offer plenty of similarly dramatic lines. They include bolts of lightning thundering down from the heavens, more crashing waves of understanding, and cheese. Yum!
