If you have seen Builders None in concert, you know they are a band that is able to touch the hearts of young and old for Jesus. Their stage presence is not about glorifying themselves or showing off their talents, even though they are extremely talented musicians. Their stage presence is about inviting the presence of the Holy Spirit of God to move through worship and praise.
Music is their medium for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, his grace, forgiveness, unconditional love. Recently they played at a youth Aftershock event for teenagers at Community Fellowship Church, in Douglasville, GA. Old and young alike were ministered to through their music, their demonstration of faith, and their love for everyone.
In an exclusive interview, Builders None shared the following about their band and their ministry.
Associated Content (AC): Share with us the story behind the formation of your band and your band’s name.
Builders None (BN): The name Builders None comes from the scripture Psalms 118:22
The stone the builders rejected has become the corner stone. None of us want to be those builders (the non-believers) that rejected Christ. Therefore, we adopted the name Builders None. There are more details about how the band formed. You can check out our bio on MySpace.com.
AC: Please, introduce the members of Builders None and give us a brief glimpse at each individual and their unique contribution to the band.
BN: Andy Hagan – lead vocals, guitar
Chad Cohran – lead guitar
Jason Harris – bass guitar
Dennis Cates – backup vocals, keyboards
Darold Wendlandt – drums
AC: What do you consider your calling in the body of Christ?
BN: Our calling is ministers of music focusing on leading people to Christ through worship.
AC: Why do you think music is such a powerful medium ?
BN: Music is emotional. It breaks down a hardened heart that would otherwise be less willing to open up. Music is an international language that has no boundaries.
AC: To what demographic do you think you most connect in your ability to share worship and the message of faith?
BN: God has given us a unique ability to reach everyone, no matter what the age or personality. We have played for kids’ church, youth events, Sunday worship services, senior events, incarcerated prisoners, charitable events and festivals.
We have a diverse style of music that is enjoyed by most everyone.
AC: Do you find people growing more or less complacent to the music and the message of Jesus Christ?
BN: I think that people are less complacent. More and more we hear from churches that they have never had a contemporary group like us at their church before. I believe God is using us to break down traditional walls that separate God’s people.
AC: I’ve heard you do some cover songs and some of your own songs, both very powerful. Who writes the songs and who makes decisions about the music?
BN: Lyrically, Andy writes all songs and some music. For the most part, the music is a collaboration of the whole band.
AC: Tell us about your CDs or albums? Any exclusive information you’d like to share about your upcoming Builders None release?
BN: In 2004, we released our first album “Flow Through Me”. In 2007 we released our second album “Learning to Fly”. Our most recent project “Peace be Still” is officially due to be released in August 2009.
AC: So that your fans and others can understand what it is like to be a bi-vocational minister, especially a musician, like the guys in Builders None, give us a glimpse of what it is like to minister given your current lifestyles and situations.
BN: We are all currently working full time jobs, but our ministry sometimes feels like a full time job, playing in excess of 80 shows per year. The reason we do what we do is because of our love for Jesus. There is a great harvest, but the workers are few.
AC: What is the ultimate goal of Builders None?
BN: Ultimately, we would love to be in the ministry full time since that’s where our hearts and passion lie. We believe God has great things in store for us. He has already used us in ways that we could never have imagined….and the best is yet to come.
AC: What are your plans for reaching your God given destiny?
BN: In 2008, we signed a recording contract with Pure Light records to help us expand and grow and ministry.
AC: Where can fans of Builders None get a copy of your CD?
BN: You can order our CDs online at www.buildersnone.com and coming very soon through iTunes.
AC: If a law were passed tomorrow that said you could no longer play Christian music, what would you do?
BN: We’d play it anyway! We’d be just like Daniel when the king declared no one could pray to any other god but his god. Daniel still prayed with his windows open just like always.
AC: What else would you like to share with the fans and those who have just been introduced to Builders None?
BN: Our desire is to bring a message of hope and love everywhere we play, while keeping Christ center of everything we do.
Thank you, Builders None, for what you do to strengthen the Body of Christ, break down walls, and share the good news of a relationship of restoration to God through Jesus Christ.
You all are incredible performers and we look forward to seeing you and hearing more from you in the very near future.
