Finding work in today’s Economy is actually a full time job that you do not get paid for! My husband I have both been looking for work for several months’ now. We are not alone in our venture. I run across social media blogs and forums constantly that talk about the difficulties in finding a job.
What is the problem? Well, if I could answer this question I might just be a Politician. I feel that some of the problem is that companies tend to be going to an online application form where you are given and assessment. I feel that this assessment is almost impossible to get through. I once filled out an online application then went a few days later in person to check on that application, which of course could not be found. I asked the manager why I submitted the application online and received confirmation but the application could not be located? His answer just blew me out of the water; He stated that the online assessment decides whether or not your application is even viewed!! You take your time to fill out this assessment and a computer reads the answers and automatically deletes your application if your answers do not match what the computer dictates to be the perfect match.
Another problem is Education; it seems that several jobs that, at one time, did not require a degree now do. If it is not a degree that is being sought then multiple years of experience is. This is not to say that education is not a necessity because it is. However, there is a great number of the general population that does not hold a degree. Attaining a degree takes time and money, of which, most people do not have. We wonder why our job market is in the shambles that it is in; Take a look at employers and their sometimes impossible demands on just an entry level position.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, finding a job has become a series of jumping through hoops only to find out that you did it for nothing. I know there was a time when an honest man could go out and make an honest day’s pay just by proving himself AFTER getting his foot in the door. The demands that employers and the government put on job titles has become ludicrous. For example, why do you need a Degree or a Certification from the state to care for children in your home? Sure, maybe you need a background check in today’s society for safety purposes, but who decided that the government needed to regulate your home? This is just one in many examples. Look at your local job board and see how many job postings require a degree when really, our kids could do the job.
