I’m sure you’re thinking … another Disney princess movie? Are you kidding me? How many can they create? Apparently, a lot! Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” opens in theaters November 29 to a limited release in New York and Los Angeles (elsewhere December 11). Disney’s princesses are big business and Tiana is no exception. “The Princess and the Frog” is sure to be a hit for a number of reasons.
Princess Tiana’s Showboart Jubilee.
Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World both debuted their live musical production of the “The Princess and the Frog” at the end of October to thrilled park audiences. This early opening helped promote the movie for a good month, allowing guests to become familiar with the characters-Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, and Dr. Facilier-as well as the story behind the movie.
“The Princess and the Frog” stars Princess Tiana.
Princess Tiana is the first African-American princess in Disney’s court. As with many of the other Disney princesses, Princess Tiana is a strong and independent young woman and is determined to do things on her own, in her own way. Disney has been known to embrace other ethnicities with their previous princesses, and girls of all races have relished each one. Princess Tiana will be a true heroine for girls to cherish.
“The Princess and the Frog” is a love story.
Everyone loves a good love story-little girls dreams are made of these-and “The Princess and the Frog” is no exception. The movie is based on the classic story of a handsome prince, Prince Naveen, who is turned into a frog by an evil magician, Dr. Facilier. When Princess Tiana kisses the frog prince to help make him human, the unexpected happens and takes them both on a wild ride that children and adults will thoroughly enjoy.
“The Princess and the Frog” embraces the Jazz Age of New Orleans.
The movie is set in the Jazz Age of New Orleans as the city is getting ready for Mardi Gras. This colorful time period and setting allows for some great musical numbers as well as chart-topping songs that are sure to be a hit. Anika Noni Rose, as Princess Tiana, sings “Almost There,” “Down in New Orleans,” as well as an ensemble number with Michael Leon-Wooley, Bruno Campos and features Terence Blanchard on trumpet. Audiences will eagerly be adding these tunes to their iPods and are guaranteed to pop up during auditions of the next season of American Idol!
“The Princess and the Frog” has a great cast.
What better way to ensure movie success, than casting big name actors. “The Princess and the Frog” does just that. Besides Rose, the cast also includes John Goodman as Eli ‘Big Daddy’ LaBouff, Keith David as Dr. Facilier, Terrence Howards as James, and Oprah Winfrey as Eudora to name a few.
“The Princess and the Frog” is sure to delight all audiences with its great music, incredible cast and wonderful love story. Just in time for the holidays, Disney has created another classic story that you’ll want to see again and again.
