Most people who like the Fox show House like it because of the main character Dr. Gregory House played by Hugh Laurie. Dr. House often shocks the viewer with his incentive comments and brutal honesty. I remember saying one season that I can not believe he does not get punched every episode. Gregory House’s mouth always seems to go where most people’s mouths would never go.
For those of you who are not familiar with the show House is a medical drama with a bit of a comical over tone to it. Gregory House is a doctor who specializes in figuring out odd medical cases. When someone is dying or very ill and nobody else can figure out what is wrong with them and how to fix them then they go to Dr. House and his assistants to figure out what is wrong with them. Although Dr. House has a special skill for saving lives he has kind of a dislike for people, or at least he prefers to put them down and enjoys messing with them more than actually getting to know them or get close to them. He has one friend who sticks with him even though he has pushed the boundaries of that friend ship. He also has sort of a tortured love hate type relationship with his boss. I also must mention that Dr. House is a Vicodin addict who pops pills like they are M&M’s.
House’s new season started back up yesterday with a 2 hour special. At the end of last season House was seeing dead people. Mostly his best friend’s girl friend who had died in a bus accident while going to pick him up after an evening of binge drinking. It seemed House’s conscience was beginning to affect him. At the end of the season last year Dr. House was checking himself in to a mental institution to get himself off of the vicodan and to get rid of his delusions.
The beginning of the episode has him waking up in the mental hospital. It appears that he has went a certain amount of time with out the vicodan and he wants to be released now. He checked himself in so he has every right to leave but Dr. in charge of the Mental Hospital talks him in to staying because clearly the vicodan is not his only problem.
The entire episode was shot inside the mental institution with exception of short scene at a carnival. The episode started out with House being his normal sarcastic and cruel self, but throughout the show he begins to care for a woman, and starts to relate to the other patients in the mental hospital and actually begins to connect with other human beings.
At the end of the episode Dr. House is released a newer and improved, happier and more sensitive man. Next weeks episode sends him back to the hospital and his team, we shall see just how long this newer happier Greg House sticks around.
