When one thinks of places to enjoy and have fun in for free, parks are constantly at the top of the list, in Katy, Texas this is no exception.
Mary Jo Peckham Park, located 5597 Gardenia Lane in Katy, TX 77493 open from 7:00 am to 10 pm daily. The entire park is handicapped accessible and offers fun for all the family.
What makes this park incredible other than its natural beauty is for one its indoor pool. This is a heated pool so it’s opened all year and holds a number of activities throughout the day. There are all sorts of classes; from arthritis aquatics to deep water aerobics and lap swim. There is also recreational swim during the day so everyone can enjoy the pool and the activities. In addition, the pool has wheelchair ramps and a lift and programs for special needs children or any age. And for your convenience the facility has a locker room and showers.
Furthermore, the facility has a fitness room and several classes are given throughout the day, lessons such as, cardio muscle conditioning, yoga and karate. To find out about the pool times and activities, there are pool schedules at the front desk (opened Monday to Saturday from 7am to 7pm, Saturday from 8am to 5:30 and Sunday from 10am to 5:30pm). Call in advance to sign up 281-391-4482 or visit www.pct3.hctx.net.
This way you can plan your day at the park because though the pool is incredible, there are many more things to do. You can enjoy a stroll along the park or a picnic with the family. A wonderful gazebo sits among the trees and so does a large covered area with grills. And if you haven’t had enough yet, there is always fishing for bass, catfish and rainbow trout (seasonal) at the beautiful fishing pier at the lake. Or try a game of free miniature golf, loner clubs and balls are available (please call to verify hours); and we all know that children just can’t get enough so, let them run around the playground while you sit under the shade and relax.
But if you’re more of a sporty kind of family; how about the Katy City Park for an option? This park is located at 5720 Franz Road, Katy, Texas 77493 opened from 6am to 10pm daily. The park is located only a block away from Mary Jo Peckham’s Park. You might just visit them both on the same trip. But remember to bring your equipment because this park offers; 4 ball fields, covered basketball pavilion and tennis courts. And for the kids that just love to “monkey around” there is the new Katy Play Station that was just put in this year.
The wonderful thing about Katy Play Station is that is accessible for all children. Be and Angel Foundation teamed up with City of Katy along with other local businesses and community sponsors to give Katy a barrier-free playground. Children on wheelchairs or that need walkers can go up the platforms, play and have fun in Katy Play Station. Everyone has fun at Katy City Park.
