Everyone at one time or another has given money as a gift because either they don’t know what to buy the person or they just don’t have the time to go out a buy a gift. They just figure the recipient will just go out and buy something they really want and that is a great idea, most cash receiving recipients like that idea as well. But most people just simply put the money in a card and sign it, where’s the fun in that? Here are some fun and creative ways to give the gift of money:
Put a bill or two at the bottom of a big glass bowl; lay it flat on the bottom. Since money is really dirty and loaded with all kinds of germs I strongly suggest you wrap it in saran wrap or a plastic baggie then fill the bowl with something gooey like Jell-O (make sure it’s not hot or the plastic will melt). Make the recipient of the gift fish it out with their hands. A mixture of inexpensive shampoos and lotions works really well too, and if they decide to start one of those friendly little wars where they get it all over other people, pay attention, if any gets on anyone’s hair yell: OH MY GOSH, THERE’S NAIR IN THERE! The wide eyed, surprised and shocked looks will be well worth the cash expense.
Buy a big bag of straws; I think the striped ones work the best. You have to roll the money really tight and sometimes it does take a little effort to get it tight enough but it will fit inside the straw. Once you get it in inside the straw look around and find something long and skinny enough to push the money more towards the center of the straw. Put the straw back in the package and seal. The recipient will first have to find the straw with the money in it, which is easily done, then, they will have to get the money out of the straw, that is the fun part. They always try to blow it out first and that never works, but it is fun to watch, eyes usually cross when they look down at the straw while blowing. The funny faces are sure to make everyone laugh. The only way to get the money out is to cut it with a knife or scissors, just be careful not to cut the money and keep some scotch tape handy just in case you do.
This next idea is great; I was really on my game when I thought of it. I was hiding money inside things for a sort of scavenger hunt, the birthday party was at a public park and I could not hide gifts around the park for fear the wrong people would find them so I gathered things around the house and hid money in them. I got a box of Macaroni and cheese, the cheap kind with the powered cheese packet and I decided I was going to hide money in there. I carefully cut open the end of the box; it was easily done by sliding a sharp knife between the two flaps. I did not want to just put it inside with the macaroni because it would be way too easy to find it so I decided to hide it in the cheese packet. First I shake the cheese packet upside down to move the cheese away from the end I am cutting; I cut straight across the bottom edge, put the money in it and then glued it shut. I stuffed the cheese packet back inside the box and glued it closed. (If you mess up the box because it was one of those stubborn boxes that would not open easily and it looks tampered with then tape it close, just tape the other end closed too and that way they will not know what end you used because both ends now look tampered with.) It works because the recipient never thinks to look in the cheese packet for the money, eventually you have to tell them where it is, but it is fun to watch the baffled looks on their face when they can’t find it.
You can make a bouquet of really expensive suckers by wrapping money around them just like the wrapper they come in I would wrap it around the wrapper because as mentioned above money is dirty. Just use a small piece of wire or string to twist or tie in place to keep the money on it, you may want to fold the money before putting it on to make it smaller and fit the sucker better. You can use pretty ribbon to tie the bunch together and even use a few flowers to enhance the beauty of the bouquet.
You can buy a really small gift like a book or jewelry, instead of buying wrapping paper wrap the gift with money, just try to use as little tape as possible and keep and eye on it. Everyone will love your choice in gift wrap and wrapping the gift with bigger bills will receive even more appreciation and happiness.
Get a really big box and fill it with shredded paper, put your money somewhere in the middle or near the bottom and wrap it really pretty. This will be similar to looking for a needle in a hay stack and should be fun to watch.
Buy a book with either really gross or really funny pictures in it and tape your money to the one page you like the best, that way you force the recipient to look at it. If you just put the money in the book it will easily fall out when the pages are feathered and not as fun.
Not everyone will find this idea funny and you really should consider the person you are doing this too, some people may be offended and that is the last thing you want. Buy a box of tampons, the kind with the plastic applicator. Take one tampon out, carefully cut open the end, take out the plastic applicator, pull it apart, take the sponge out of it and put the money there, reassembly the tampon, put it back in the plastic wrap and glue it shut, stick it back in the box wrap it and give it as a gift. Make sure you tell the person that there is money in there and they have to find it, wish them luck with this one, it will be hard to find.
If you have one of those rocks that will hide your spare house key outside, grab it, take the key out and put money where the key should be, then gather up some more rocks and wrap them all together in a box. Tell the recipient of the gift that you didn’t know what to get them so you got them a box of rocks. You can tease them all day long about how you picked the best rocks you could find, imagine their surprise when they open their gift and it really is a box of rocks. Make sure they know there is money inside and they have to find it. After all the fun is done tell them they can keep the money and most of the rocks but you want the one that hides your house key back.
Giving the gift of money can be a total blast with just a little imagination and creation. To me it’s worth $20.00 or more to see everyone laugh and have a great time and I don’t feel like I am just giving my money away. It’s also a great way to get a party going, now people are making jokes, talking to each other and laughing which is what helps to make a party a great success. Try some of these ideas or create your own and let us know how things work out.
