As a child, my favorite part of the holidays was making crafts with my mom. The weather is getting too cold to be playing outside, so making crafts and holiday decorations is the perfect alternative. The options of do it yourself crafts are endless, and they are great for any age. The following are my three favorite Thanksgiving crafts for all age groups:
•Colored craft foam or construction paper
•Bare tree branch
•Ornament hangars or paper clips
1.)Fill the flower pot with art sand and place the empty tree branch securely in the pot.
2.)Cut leaf shapes out of the colored craft foam or construction paper. Use a variety of colors for the leaves.
3.)Have everyone in the family write things they are thankful for on the leaves.
4.)Using a paper clip or ornament hangar, hang each leaf on the tree branch.
Corn Napkin Holders
•Green construction paper
•Tissue paper (yellow, orange, and burgundy)
1.)Cut the construction paper into 1.5″ wide strips. Each strip will make two napkin holders.
2.)Cut each strip in half.
3.)Cut the tissue paper into 1″ square.
4.)Cover about a 1″ section on the green strip construction paper with glue.
5.)Alternating in colors, take a piece of cut tissue paper and scrunch it up. Place it on the construction paper strip with glue.
6.)Continue step 4 and 5 until all but ½” of construction paper is covered.
7.)Roll the finished piece into a ring and glue together.
8.)Let it completely dry before using as a napkin holder.
Paper Bag Turkey
•Brown paper bag
•Construction paper ( green, red, orange, yellow, brown)
1.)Take a paper bag and stuff it with crumbled up newspaper, leaving about an inch to fold shut.
2.)Fold the end shut and glue it.
3.)Cut out feather shapes in all colors and glue them to the bottom of the stuffed bag. Alternate colors.
4.)Draw and cut out two turkey heads (with necks).
5.)Glue both pieces together with the ends glued to each side of the folded over bag opening.
These crafts are great ways to get the whole family together to celebrate the holidays. All materials can be purchased at any craft store. Happy Thanksgiving!
