Labor Day is the last hurrah of the summer. So be sure to make it memorable and enjoy the remaining days of summer by celebrating Labor Day with a great party. Here are some ideas for a great Labor Day party with family and friends.
Picnic at the Park – The park is a great location for a summery Labor Day party. I love going to the park because you don’t have to clean or decorate your house, and there are usually plenty of options for entertainment. If you have small children, consider choosing a park that has a playground, so that the kids have something to do while other preparations or activities are going on.
Park Games – If you choose the park route, you’ll have plenty of options for great outdoor activities. I love games like croquet and boccie ball. You can also play volleyball, softball, ultimate frisbee, or whatever outdoor sports you love. Anything that let’s you get out and enjoy the beautiful weather.
Indoor Picnics – Indoor picnics can also be a lot of fun for Labor Day parties. I have a lot of fun memories of our indoor picnics, where we lay out blankets and have all the traditional picnic activities, but in the comfort of our own home.
Indoor Games – If you’d rather spend your Labor Day party indoors, there are still plenty of fun options for games. You can play traditional card games or board games, or branch out with more interactive games. One of my favorite party games for large groups is “Psychiatrist”. We play with one person leaving the room, while the rest of the party makes up a rule we are going to follow-such as people wearing red will tell lies, everyone else will tell the truth. Then the “psychiatrist” comes back into the room and asks the guests questions until he/she can figure out the rule. This game can be as crazy or silly as you want it to be and has always proved to be a ton of laughs with our friends.
Pool Parties – Pool parties are another classic Labor Day party idea. If you don’t have access to a swimming pool, consider other water games. You could have a water fight at the park, play water balloon volleyball, or if you’re really desperate, just run through the sprinklers.
Celebrate Summer Foods – Since Labor Day parties often commemorate the end of summer, I love to make my menus full of summer foods. I love fresh summer fruits and salads. I also love to barbecue or do whatever reminds me of the summertime, so that I can really celebrate the joys of summer as they sadly draw to a close. My favorite summery dessert is fruit pizza. This delicious dessert is simple to make. I use a sugar cookie mix for the crust, then top it off with whipped topping and my favorite fruits. I usually go with strawberries, kiwi, bananas, and grapes.
