Are you planning a garage sale soon? Searching for effective advertising methods? A garage sale is a fantastic way to make some immediate money, get rid of things you don’t need, and free up space in your home. Here are some tips and ideas on how to advertise for your garage sale.
Garage Sale Advertising Idea #1: Advertising on a Local Group on Cafemom.com
I started with this tip first because most people might not thinking about it. Cafemom.com is a fantastic network of moms and moms in waiting. There are numerous local groups of moms where people discuss local businesses, get parenting advice and more. Nearly all of them would welcome a message promoting your garage sale. I moderate a Cafemom group for the Lubbock, TX area and definitely support garage sale ads. To post, simply join the website www.cafemom.com. Then search for a local group. For example, if you are from San Antonio, search for San Antonio moms. Join the group, perhaps introduce yourself, and the create a post that says “Garage Sale This Saturday” or something similar. Obviously, this is best if you are selling baby items, furniture, or things that a young family might need.
Garage Sale Advertising Idea #2: Make Eye-Catching Signs and Post Them in Great Places
Signs are one of the most effective methods to advertise a garage sale. There are actually several websites were you can print garage sale signs from. Just google “garage sale sign” and several options will appear. You can also buy nice garage sale signs. These will be more unique than the cardboard and magic marker ones. (Although those are fine too.) Try to post them at the corner into your neighborhood and at a nearby intersection. You might check with your city ordinances if necessary.
Garage Sale Advertising Idea #3: Advertise in the Local Paper
This one might seem like common sense, but the article wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t include it. Don’t forget about advertising in the paper. You might also see if any neighbors in your area would like to have combined garage sale, and then split the advertising costs.
Garage Sale Advertising Idea #4: Advertise on Craigslist
A fourth idea is to advertise on Craigslist.com. It’s free, and what do you have to lose? Just try it. Visit craigslist.com and click on your local area.
