You can have little money to spend on Christmas but still give your girlfriend a gift she’ll love. And, since you’ll be making the gift she’ll love it even more! Many men think women want fancy, expensive gifts, but for some women, having a guy take the time to make her a present means much more than how much money was spent. This year, make your girlfriend her Christmas gift then get ready for the huge thank-you that you will receive!
There are lots of nice gifts you can make your girlfriend. One is a cute earring holder. There are several different ways to make the holder. One way is to take a picture frame, replace the glass with a piece of screen or plastic grid, then glue on embellishments. The decorations you attach can be anything from fake jewels – found at a craft store – to painted wooden shapes. Make a different earring holder by using a piece of craft foam. It’s found in craft stores, of course, but often in discount department stores, too. The foam is flat and comes in a sheet form that’s available in many different colors. Cut the foam sheet into the shape you want. You can get lots of patterns by simply looking through a coloring book. Cut the shape of a puppy, kitten, sailboat or other image. Make the shape thicker by cutting a second, identical shape and gluing it to the first. Use an ice pick, nail or other object to create holes around the perimeter of the shape. These holes will hold the earrings. Space them evenly apart to give the best appearance. Glue the finished design to a piece of foam, cardboard or even a piece of painted wood. She’ll love this earring holder which is very easy to make.
Does your girlfriend have a sweet tooth? Purchase a bag of suckers and a Styrofoam cone and you’ll give her a gift she’ll absolutely love. Start at the bottom and work your way to the top by pushing the sucker sticks into the cone. After the cone is full of suckers you can fill in any blank areas with curled ribbon pieces glued to toothpicks. This is a cheap gift that, although it takes some time to make, will last a long time and will be unforgettable.
Create a secret hiding place for your girlfriend to stash letters from you by starting with a simple, clear jar. Glue a bathroom tissue roll to the inside of the jar, centering it on the bottom. Now fill up the jar, around the roll, with beads or something similar. She can open the jar and stash your love notes or other items inside the cardboard tube. If you want, cut a circle of cardboard, glue beads all over it, and place it on top of the cardboard tube. That way, if anyone happens to open the jar, they’ll see only beads. There’s no project easier than this one but she’ll love having a secret hiding place that only you and she know about!
If your girlfriend is school-aged you can make her a really great locker organizer with little money or effort. Purchase cork by the roll or by the piece at a craft store. While there, purchase a sheet of magnetic sheeting, and use it to make the organizer stick to the locker. Cut the cork to the size you want then cut the magnetic sheeting into squares. Attach the squares to the backside of the cork corners. Cut a disposable cup in half and glue it to the cork to make a place for holding pens, pencils, markers and more. Include tacks with the gift and your girlfriend can tack up homework reminders, pictures of friends, and of course, photos of you!
Just don’t have any money to spend on a bunch of craft supplies? Paint a cardboard box and she’ll have a place to put her cd’s. Or, paint a yardstick and glue on some clothes pins. Now she can hang anything from pictures to scarves to handbags. Another idea is to turn a shirt of yours into a bulletin board for her room. Cut cardboard pieces to the shape of the shirt and slide them inside. Glue them so they won’t fall out. Supply her with decorative tacks that can be inserted into the shirt and cardboard to hold pictures, notes, award ribbons, report cards and much more. It’s a cute and unique bulletin board unlike any other.
The girl you love is one of the first people you think about when it comes to giving a Christmas gift. You don’t necessarily have to have a lot of money, though, to give her something she’ll love. She already knows your situation; she knows if you’re broke or if you can afford to give her diamonds and jewels. If you fall into the first category don’t worry. She’ll love a homemade gift from you and she’ll cherish it always. Get busy! Choose a gift to make and get going. Christmas is fast approaching!
